5.0 out of 5 stars Butthole Surfers at their creative best
From 1982 to the present, the Butthole Surfers have gone through many changes in their musical style. 3.0 out of 5 stars Listen to it Backwards
No, I don't mean put it on a record player and spin it backwards - I mean start from the last song, number 11, then play number 10, etc., until you get to the first song.

It sounds much better that way, and I'm convinced that's the way they wanted you to listen to it.

From 1982 to the present, the Butthole Surfers have gone through many changes in their musical style. "Brown Reason to Live" and "Live PCPPEP" are both amazing albums, but if you want to hear what the Butthole Surfers were really all about, get "Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac." On this album, the Surfers spew up 11 catchy and quirky songs full of insane guitar work by Paul Leary, Jeff Pinkus' drunken bass lines, King Coffey and Teresa's clever percussion, and Gibby Haynes' edgy singing. Forget about "Electric Larryland," get "Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac." And while you're at it, get all of the Butthole Surfers' work that has just been re-released on Latino Bugger Veil Records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unfettered Creativity....truly impressive., November 8, 2003
This review is from: Psychic Powerless Another Ma (Audio CD)
I used to find many BS tunes too obtuse to explore. As a result I dismissed them as yet another in a long string of publicity seeking 2nd rate carneys in the Punk/Hardcore genre.

This album however is so tight, and it is obvious the band had complete control over all resources devoted to this enterprise. The result is a sharp, pointed composition that gets your attention within 30 seconds.

This is a top ten "Must Own" in any hardcore collection.

Any record with a song about big & strong space aliens who like to watch black people is, in my book, a classic.

Psychic Powerless is one of those pinnacle moments in noise and weirdness. Its psychotoxic grooves will boggle your mind. Warning: It is not for the squeamish... If you need to have one Buttholes album, this is the one. Everyone should really have to listen to this album at least once.

What can you say about an album that in its first song rhymes "Dracula" with "scapula?" One of the most completely hilarious and utterly terrifying records ever made.

At long last, this digitally remastered CD presents the music of the Buttholes with the sonic clarity it so richly deserves.

psychic... powerless... another man's sac is one of the butthole surfers greatest, I just can't stess that enough. I love how it opens up w/ the total flipper-acid rock classic "concubine" and ends with the sarcastic hillbilly joke of "gary floyd". Let us not forget the catchy sax of "Negro Observer" and "Cowboy Bob". The deranged psychedelia of "Cherub", country-punk of "butthole surfer", and thudding drums of "dum dum" also deserve credit. U can't call yourself a BHS fan until you have this masterpiece.

This Album has got to be the best one they (Butthole Surfers) ever released. Its hard, solid and makes you yearn for the good old days of Big Black, Ministry and the Surfer on a hot sweaty Saturday Night. If you haven't picked this one up and you're a fan, do it now.

This is most likely the best of the butthole surfers albums. They make electric guitar with saxophone on the goh hackoli tip. They make gari gari gari sound with absolute texas yum/ If you do now own this you should look into making a chocolate tatari with 1960's Mayo style. Ich kenne aus Starke!!

I'm the only person I know who loves this album. Whenever I want to irritate someone, I blast 'Lady Sniff' really loud on my stereo and sing along off the top of my lungs until I'm begged to cease and desist. You're either going to love this album or you're going to hate the hell out of it. This album is like having a root canal without Novocain. Yes, blue baby Skywalker, this album is like sticking your tongue down your mother's throat.
