The author seems to be a very kind and open person from what I gathered from the book, however thinking the author a good person doesn't make the book a good one. In fact the information detailed in the write up, right here on amazon, was the only information that was actually helpful to me. The writer seems to use the book almost as a journal. 95% of the book details...

This is much more than an arid "how-to" kind of book. At its heart, "Psychic Secrets" is the charming memoir of one man's journey through life - from his beginnings as the "normal" child of psychic parents, through the death of his parents, to his own maturation as a psychically sensitive adult.

There are, indeed, useful tips about how to fan one's own psychic flame. For this reader, though, the enchantment in this book lies in the stories from Joseph Mullen's unusual, "paranormal", life - those are the "psychic secrets" that stayed with me long after I closed the book.

If a book is, essentially, an author's voice, then a good book is the voice of an author who is well worth your attention. "Psychic Secrets" is such a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hey, I really liked this book!, April 11, 2001

To tell you the truth, I wasn't sure about what I would find when I ordered this book. I think I'm somewhat psychic, and figured it would be interesting to find out how to be MORE psychic.

Well, "Psychic Secrets" really did help me. (Especially the part about dreams) Mullen has quite a few helpful tips and he just has this different way of looking at the world that I could relate to. Also, I didn't expect to find out so much about his life, but that's how he shows you how this psychic stuff works, by telling you about his own, kind of weird, life! (I mean good weird...)

And by the way, the photo on the cover isn't the author! It's a picture of his (amazingly psychic) parents, and according to the book, Joseph Mullen took it back in the '70s. It reminds me of the kinds of outfits my own parents wore in the '70s. (At least HIS dad wasn't wearing a turquoise leisure suit - my dad's favorite!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read and Very Informative, July 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychic Secrets - Your Guide to Dreams, Hunches, and Spirit Contact (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. From the first few pages it draws you into the real-life adventures of the author, including his psychic vision of a plane crash. Plus the techniques, what the author calls "psychic secrets" are very easy-to-follow tips about recording and interpreting dreams, overcoming grief about a loved one's passing, being open to contact from the other side, etc. But most of all, I enjoyed all the good stories that the author has to share. My only complaint? It was so good I hated to put it down when I was finished. But it's a book I'll probably read again and again, especially because it has a lot of good suggestions that will help me develop my ESP. Until I read this book, I didn't even realize I was psychic. But that's the whole point of the book, everyone has these powers! And this book will help you tap into your own ESP.

I found this book to be a good read. The author does a great job of pulling the reader into his life experiences, whether paychic or not. In fact, I found his input on the grief process extremely poignant. He just about "says it all" in that regard, beautifully, and his writing touched me deeply. Mr. Mullen's inspiration no doubt flows from being a sensitive soul who truly desires to enrich the lives of others by sharing from his own, very personal stories. And I was reminded - to be human is to be psychic. I'll be purrchasing his next book!Valeria Bleistein

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound, practical advice, September 22, 2003

This review is from: Psychic Secrets - Your Guide to Dreams, Hunches, and Spirit Contact (Paperback)
I have nothing but praise for this book. It was so enjoyable to read.It had none of the dry ,hard to understand tone of a lot of instructional books. The text was vivid and leaped off the page. I loved all the stories that the author told in the book. I'm always glad to hear of other peoples experiences.
Mr. Mullen has a wonderful writing style-warm, personal, engaging , encouraging. I felt as thought he was speaking right to me. He is very likable in print.

I disagree with a few of the authors opinions{such as what a Ghost is , for example}, but I learned some things from this book.
What this book gives you is simple, good advice. No, it doesn't hold your hand step by step , but it will get you started.
A lot of it is common sense and thats always nice to have in a field that deals with the mystical. One of the charms about the book is that the author makes you feel like you CAN do this, that its just within your reach. That everyone can improve their psychic powers .That its very possible. You will feel encouraged after reading this book. I hope this book has done well for him.

Mr. Mullen seems to be a very nice person with a lot of good energy to share and I do hope he writes another book like the spirit of his Mother predicted he would do at the end of this one.
I'll buy it as well.

In fact the information detailed in the write up, right here on amazon, was the only information that was actually helpful to me. The writer seems to use the book almost as a journal. 95% of the book details the authors personal situations, which to a reader such as myself, who has no personal knowledge of the writer or his family or friends, is simply tedious. There is little if any information on how to tap into your subconscious mind and explore the psychic realm.

If you are looking for information on how to explore and tap into your psychic sense, then this book is not for you. If you are interested in hearing about one man's stories of the supernatural, then this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the heart and soul, April 10, 2001

This review is from: Psychic Secrets - Your Guide to Dreams, Hunches, and Spirit Contact (Paperback)
To read Joseph Mullen's Psychic Secrets is to get a glimpse into a man who wants only to be of service. He writes from his heart, and lets us in on his doubts and insecurities (growing up with psychic parents and fearing he lacked his own psychic abilities), and his connections to the people and places that have mattered in his life. Joseph paints a realistic picture of how to recognize and nurture our own unique gifts. Psychic Secrets is not a graduate course in metaphysics; rather, it's a primer, a place to start. No one would ever get anywhere if they didn't start somewhere. Joseph's book is a great place to start if you want to tap into your own psychic secrets!

5.0 out of 5 stars Discover your psychic side in PSYCHIC SECRETS!, March 7, 2002
By
Sue W. Kramer (Lambertville, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Psychic Secrets - Your Guide to Dreams, Hunches, and Spirit Contact (Paperback)
Are you a die-hard non-believer in psychic abilities and the paranormal? Or do you sometimes wonder about unusual and unexplainable things that just seem to happen now and then? Have you, in fact, ever wondered if you might have an untapped psychic aspect to your personality?

In PSYCHIC SECRETS, Joseph B. Mullen shares his personal and poignant account of growing up in a psychic family as he takes the reader on a journey that leads to the development of his own psychic abilities.

While Mr. Mullen's PSYCHIC SECRETS documents his path to achieving his personal spirituality, it is also a wonderful introduction to the psychic realms of the universe - a jumping off point for those who wish to learn more and explore their own psychic sides. Because it is through this inspiring account of Mr. Mullen's search to find himself as he learns to strike a balance between everyday living and the paranormal, that he reveals the psychic secrets and life lessons that form the backbone of this wonderful work.

If you enjoy real-life stories and sensible advice that you won't find anywhere else, then I highly recommend that you read PSYCHIC SECRETS.

And, whether you're a believer or not, you'll be entertained by Mr. Mullen's tales of the paranormal. Skeptics will find themselves wondering about things that have happened in their own lives, and believers will find themselves wanting to hone their own psychic talents.

I particularly liked Mr. Mullen's psychic instructions and concise tips for tapping into the reader's own psychic abilities. His unique approach to "retrospective dream analysis" quotes at length from his own personal dream journal, and the examples Mr. Mullen has chosen make for fascinating reading.

It is an entertaining way for the average person to learn how to make sense of his or her own "crazy" dreams. And, as Mr. Mullen points out, it is often our craziest dreams that are trying to tell us something about the future!

Instead of spending all of his time peering into the future, Mullen should look at a mirror. Then, he might stop dressing so funny. (See the picture of him on the book cover.)
