This author comes from a martial artist background. And as such she is very concerned about self defense in all aspects.

She avoids filling her book up with long boring essays and thoughts about metaphysics and the like.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book was disappointing- zero stars
This book is horrible. There was so much garbage on pages 29-76, and 81-92, that if you look at what is left you have party games of tricks to show how you have an unbendable arm etc. (but oh ya, tell your friends not to press down too fast or hard or your arm will bend). The author attempts to have you believe that your imagination can have power: "Acting as if someone...

This author comes from a martial artist background. And as such she is very concerned about self defense in all aspects.

She avoids filling her book up with long boring essays and thoughts about metaphysics and the like.
Instead she utilizes many different exercises that she has the reader try out. The exercises themselves are very potent and they work, they are easily laid out and explained.

This book is far beyond other psychic defense books.

5.0 out of 5 stars What you need to read now!, February 14, 2005
This review is from: The Psychic Self-Defense Personal Training Manual (Paperback)
This is an excellent book to read whether you're an adept at magic or just starting out. Pickands does an excellent job of explaining the concepts involved in psychic self-defense in a coherent voice. She nicely avoids the drama that seems to come with so many of these books and gets to the point, which is that psychic self-defense isn't about picking fights, it's about knowing how to avoid them, and get out of them if you get stuck in one.

Perhaps what I like the most about this book is the seamless blending of ceremonial magic with energy work. Neither approach is overly emphasized, but both approaches are recognized and explained in enough detail that a beginner will understand the ideas, and an adept will get a different perspective on how to defend him/herself. The exercises in the book are easy to do and a lot of fun. Once you start them with a partner you may find it hard not to experiment with them.

An added bonus is also the publication, in this book, of some of William G. Gray's unpublished ceremonial magic rituals. Readers will find these rituals intriguing, but a word of warning...embark on these rituals and make sure you follow through. Gray always did a thorough job of doing his magic, not just writing about it, and that's what he'd expect from anyone who'd start on his workings.

Finally Pickands includes an appendix with journal note sheets, useful for noting the experiment and results. You can't lose in picking up this book. You will certainly learn something, regardless of what experience lever you're at. I'd give this book five stars.

Incredible. She handles the bacics of Psychic Self Defense very well. Well written, easy to follow, easy to do.

A must get for beginners in the occult, healers, martial artists, and is a great adjunct to the study of Educational Kinesiology.

The information in the book is spot on and to me, very valuable. The sellers of the books (I bought one for myself and one for a friend) were both fast with the shipping and I appreciate them very much.

This book is horrible. There was so much garbage on pages 29-76, and 81-92, that if you look at what is left you have party games of tricks to show how you have an unbendable arm etc. (but oh ya, tell your friends not to press down too fast or hard or your arm will bend). The author attempts to have you believe that your imagination can have power: "Acting as if someone has what we think of as an invisible but very real psychic body or aura allows you to manipulate that psychic body at will"(page 9). You then imagine doing things to this aura and it is to have an effect on someone while you are waiving your hands around: "scoop your right hand away from your partner and past the left side of your body before arching it up and then back over your head to the original position in front of your partner's head"(page 11). Yeah right. Then ask your friend if they feel anything because you were doing something to their aura (otherwise how would they know to feel something?).

The garbage I previously mentioned had to do with lighting candles and sprinkling things in a circle and calling on creatures etc, chanting gibberish. I am embarrassed that I bought this. I can watch the witches on Buffy the Vampire Slayer to get this garbage info for free instead of reading it. This book is going in the trash today. Garbage.
