More than 25 years of secret military research into parapsychology research by the military on both sides of hte Cold War resulted in psychic warfare and espionage. This book reveals those experiments and programmes showing how they have gone on to be the foundation for more sensational research and the developments in so called "PSI powers" and institutions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate review of the real "psi wars," and beyond, January 4, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Psychic Wars: Parapsychology in Espionage - And Beyond (Paperback)
In 1995, the CIA finally admitted what many had long suspected: For decades the US government had successfully exploited psychic abilities for intelligence purposes. While skeptics were confidently insisting that psychic abilities did not exist, highly classified programs were studying and using "psi" abilities. Having participated in this research, I can recommend Gruber's book as one of the clearest and most accurate reviews of this strange but true tale. In addition, his coverage of the contemporary world-wide status of psi research is exceptionally good. The prose is a bit awkward at times because the book was translated from German into English, but on the whole it is well written and an easy read. Several other books have been published that supposedly present the inside story of psi and the government. Most of those are outrageously distorted or just plain wrong. This book is different. I give it two thumbs up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quality Read on Remote Viewing and PSI, October 16, 2009
By
This review is from: The Psychic Wars: Parapsychology in Espionage - And Beyond (Paperback)
What Did I Get Out of the Read?

It put the key events of the military remote viewing effort into a wider context and has given me a better understanding of the whys, hows, whats and wheres of the whole program. It also gave me a better understanding of the current state of PSI research.

Why Would You Want to Read This?

1. Not the first book I would recommend if you are interested in Remote Viewing, but one of the best if you want a high level overview of the Military Remote Viewing effort.

2. You seek a wider and deeper understanding of the state of academic PSI research, in layman's language.

What Did I Think of the Book?

Generally a quality read - I want to add this book to my reference library.

The book is divided into three parts. The first part discusses Government/military sponsored Remote Viewing from its inception to its public abandonment. It is the best high level overview of the Military Remote Viewing effort I have read (and I have read most of them).

The second part is a review of contemporary PSI research - including interesting chapters on the known state (as of 1999) of Russian and Chinese research. The third part is a little more speculative. In parts I found the text a bit laborious. I suspect it is because Gruber is German and this edition is translated from the original German edition.

One of the most useful books on PSI that I have read. Highly recommended.
