5.0 out of 5 stars Albums That Should Have Been Hits But Weren't , No 1 *, September 15, 2005

Mr D. "Artist/Designer/Kibitzer" (Cave Creek, Az United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Psycho City (Audio CD)
In this day and age of mediocre to downright awful albums selling gazillions of records, I'm amazed that so many good to really excellent records seem to fall through the cracks. With this in mind that I decided to do my miniscule part to level the playing field, obviously a fruitless endeavor but hey, it's my time.

From time to time I will post albums that should have been big hits but barely left a whimper. The first of which is this rare gem by Great White called Psycho City

What's rare is that every song is a gem. No weak sisters, no filler. At 61 minutes of great music, you really get your moneys worth. Starting with the hard rocking title track, "Psycho City" and "Step on You" to slow bluesy plodding "Old Rose Motel" to the bigger than life "Big Goodbye", the quirky "Doctor Me", the eight minute ballad extravaganza "Love is a Lie", to the final bluesy "Get on Home" the album is solid. Psycho City goes down in my history book as one of the most unheralded, underrated, unappreciated rock album in history.

Great White has several great albums but none are better than Psycho City. And to think, this album only made #107 on Billboard album chart. However it hit #1 on Old-Man-Metal's chart.

If you get the chance, check it out, this album is for real.

5.0 out of 5 stars **Bring on a World Tour**, February 26, 2007

This album is amazing in the fact that so many songs didn't make 'rock me' -one of the numerous greatest hits compiliations that G.W released.
This is the best all round album that G.W released - It didn't have the catchy 'once bitten twice shy' 'rock me' or 'save all your love' - but all the songs are not far off and as far as musical ability goes they leave KISS (barring the excellent bass riffs) for dead - as an example.

Buy it - Listen to it a couple of times - and you will be coming back for more.

Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock fans got cheated by the suits...., April 12, 2008
By
This review is from: Psycho City (Audio CD)
Here lies a great album, killed and buried by a record company.....

One night in 2001 after a Great White show, I found myself talking to Jack Russell and he asked me what my favorite GW album was and I told him it was this one. He seemed suprised and at the same time gratified. Talking to him solved the mystery of why this album didn't get the chance it deserved to make a name for itself as one of the classic rock albums of the era. He also told me that the guys in the band were probably more proud of this album than possibly any other and that they had very high hopes (justified) for this album. He then explained that some idiots (my word, not his) at Capitol Records had decided that grunge was in and that classic hard rock was out. It was already decided by the time the album was completed to not support "Psycho City" and to dump Great White. In the process a really fine rock album was swept under the rug of music history. I will never forget the disappointment in his voice.

What makes this story all the more tragic is the strength of this record. This truly amazing record has ten songs, every one of which is strong. I am sitting here at my computer almost sixteen years later and I can remember every one of these songs like I just heard them. This album sizles with energy from start to finish.

I see alot of good reviews on Amazon for their new album "Back To The Rhythm" and 1999's "Can't Get There From Here", justifiably so since they are good albums, but if you want one that's even better find a copy of this and buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars the last great hard rock album, February 12, 2007
This review is from: Psycho City (Audio CD)
they are such an under-rated band and this is their finest hour. Better than "Dr. Feelgood," with an honesty and urgency that is still unmatched. Get the French import for the bonus tracks, especially "Somebody To Love," which might be Audie's best work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their last great album, November 6, 2003

david zavos (chino valley, az United States) - See all my reviews

This was Great White's last great effort. Though it takes a back seat to Once Bitten, Twice Shy and Hooked, it still has that classic blues/rock sound. Russell's vocals are still top notch and Kendall, Lardie and Desbrow bring the rock as always. This is a highly under rated album that deserves your attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Underrated, April 4, 2008
This review is from: Psycho City (Audio CD)
This is by far one of the most underrated albums from an underrated band. Back in the early 90's Great White was still able to provide solid songs and put many of them on this release. The boys were extremely solid with rockers like Step on You and the smooth bluesy rockers Get on Home, Old Rose Motel and Doctor Me. If you want to get an album with a great cross section of blues, rock and ballads, get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as the Once Bitten, Twice Shy albums, December 24, 2011

This is an album I can pop in and listen through from beginning to end. This is better than their previous album, Hooked. The best song on the album has to be Step On You.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their Best Rocker !, November 9, 2011
This review is from: Psycho City (Audio CD)

I believe that this is the best work from Great White at least it is in my humble opinion. There are lots of good rock on Psycho City and its along way from Once Bitten Twice Shy by a long shot. If you havent heard this one then your missing out on what I think Great White really should have been about. Best thing is I got my ( original copy ) given to me saving me alot of bucks. Thanks dude you know who you are! Pays off being a collector and having friends in the right places.

Dont be descouraged by the big price it can still be found in bargain bins here and there at the retro stores.. It amazes me still what people will let go off for just a couple of bucks. Anyway get your copy asap and enjoy this cd.
