5.0 out of 5 stars THEY ARE UP THERE WITH THE BEST OF ALL TIME, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS GROUP
The Psycho Realm are made up of two brothers, Sick Jacken and Duke and the third part time member is B Real from the group Cypress Hill. B Real discovered the group when they were unsigned and was so impressed by them that not only did he want to help them get signed but he wanted to be part of their group.

The Psycho Realm are made up of two brothers, Sick Jacken and Duke and the third part time member is B Real from the group Cypress Hill. B Real discovered the group when they were unsigned and was so impressed by them that not only did he want to help them get signed but he wanted to be part of their group.

First of all I want to get a few things clear because after reading a few of the reviews on amazon it is quite obvious that most people are not aware of what Psycho Realm are about and are posting statements about them which are completly untrue, for starters:

1. PSYCHO REALM ARE NOT A SPIN OFF OF CYPRESS HILL, THEY ARE TWO BROTHERS WITH SUPERIOR TALENT AND B REAL WANTED TO BE PART OF THEM BECAUSE THEY CARRIED THAT HUNGER AND SOCIAL AWARENESS WHICH I BELIEVE HE THOUGHT THAT CYPRESS HILL DID NOT HAVE ANYMORE OR NECESSARILY CONCENTRATED ON.

2.DJ MUGGS DID NOT AND I REPEAT, DID NOT PRODUCE ANY OF THE TRACKS ON THIS ALBUM, ONLY ON ONE SONG WAS IT PRODUCED BY A MEMBER OF SOUL ASSASSINS WHICH MUGGS IS A PART OFF, BUT HE WAS NOT INVOLVED.

THE BEATS WERE PRODUCED BY SICK JACKEN HIMSELF AND SOME WERE CO PRODUCED BY B REAL.

This album carrys the sort of lyrics which are hard to hear from rappers these day's, It cannot be stressed how much this group is underated, they describe the dangers of the streets of LA in particular their district of Pico Union in such a vibrant and detailed way that upon listening to them you can almost picture the social depravation which plagues their streets. I am not going to start telling you about individual songs on here because the truth is that every song on this album is relevant, there are no fillers here.

The beats are some of the best I have ever heard and that is not an overstatement, not only that but they are also quite original and it seems that the beat selection was made just for them, they are quite dark and rugged but never do they suffer from same beat syndrome and they are all serious headnodders.

This group deserves more attention than they get and I urge people to check them out, I am not claiming that they are the best ever but they are a testament to what true hip hop stand's for and can claim with their head held high that they represent the westcoast.

Their other two albums A War Story and War Story Book 2 which came after this are also as good if not better than this one so if you can get a hold of them also, I strongly recommend it.

DON'T SLEEP ON THIS GROUP, IF YOU ARE INTO SERIOUS GOOD HIP HOP AND NOT HIP POP THEN GET THIS OTHERWISE YOU ARE MISSING OUT.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you consider yourself hardcore, check this out!, November 2, 2000

This album is the best Hiphop-album I've ever heard. The calculation is simple: Combine outstanding beats with tight hardcore lyrics that really express the streets, perfectly presented by gifted rappers. In my opinion, Duke's rap-performance is most outstanding, because his timing is new and unique and his voice is deep and rough, perfect for delivering his lyrics. This album has no downs, no track is really 'made to skip', but several tracks are really brillant, such as Stone Garden, Love from the Sick Side and Confessions of a Drug Addict. My advice to all real Hiphoppers out there: Check it out!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Psycho Realm is the Funky Cypress Hill S*** w/ a new twist, July 3, 1998

This review is from: Psycho Realm (Audio CD)
Psycho Realm has brought back the old Funky Cypress Hill Shxt with a bad a** new style. They are some of the best rap artists around. Compare them to most of the new stuff that is all soft core, and they kick their a** off the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENCE........ PURE EXCELLENCE, February 5, 2001
By
Mr Joshua (Winston Salem NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Psycho Realm (Audio CD)
The Psycho Realm is Cypress Hill minus the horrible Sen Dog and every other word being "herb or weed", plus 2 new rookies Jacken and Mr Duke with astonishing verbal abilities, equals A TRUE HIP-HOP CLASSIC.

PSYCHO CITY BLOCKS: an introduction just to describe urban life styles of South Central LA but in a creative way unlike artist who talk about urban life and is the opposite of originality such as Cash Money or DMX.

SHOWDOWN: my fav track a little harder than Psycho City Blocks with a little more demonic mentalities from the 3 lyrical geniuses.

THE BIG PAYBACK: average track, going into deep detail about gang violence situations and how The Psycho Realm better not catch somebody slippin in the streets.

PREMONITIONS: B-Real is a situation where he is having a nightmare about the future of LA being a battlefield for everyone about chaos and how the world is coming to an end.

STONE GARDEN:my second fav track about devils in disquise and how they can be anywhere and take anyones life at any unexpected moment.

TEMPORARY INSANITY: telling stories about their individual insanity, a nice track and very creative.

CONFESSIONS OF A DRUG ADDICT: drugs are everywhere and sometimes they can get into the wrong hands and mess up peoples lives and that is basically what this track is all about.

BULLETS: lost dreams of the street life and the paper chase and how it can sometimes end up in death, going into deep detail about how the urban communities population is dying faster than it is multipling.

LOVE LETTER: love can make someone go krazy and that is what this is about.... very creative I love this track.

R.U. EXPERIENCED: speaking of how if you have no survival skills you will not live growing up in South Cental LA.

PSYCLONES: your best friend can be your worst enemey and you would never know it and they could be working for the other side the other side being the enemey you are award of.

LOST CITIES: city blocks in some areas are considered war zones, yea i know more urban lifestyle criminal behavior tracks but is still very original.

LA CONECTA PT I: a story of 3 individuals with different goals in life and how their dreams collide with each other.

LA CONECTA PT II: part II of the track above.... a story line type track with ill original lyrics and is what makes this album the classic it is .......

IF YOU HAVN'T PURCHASED THIS ALBUM YET ............ I AM WONDERING WHY .......... STRAIGHT UP..

5.0 out of 5 stars An Overlooked Masterpiece, October 15, 2002
By
This review is from: Psycho Realm (Audio CD)
Psycho Realm's debut record was released in 1997, a time when no one was looking for the break-through work from Duke & Jacken, two East Los Angeles natives. Aside from the limited advertising of the record and sparse airplay of the lead single, the album (featuring Cypress Hill frontman B-Real) still did surprisingly well on music store shelves. In its raw form, the self-titled debut is a biting, visual portrait of life in the inner city, particularly for Latinos in East L.A. From the very first track, "Psycho City Blocks", to "Lost Cities", Duke & Jacken paint vivid pictures of life on the mean streets. Differentiating Psycho Realm from other California rap acts, the trio show both sides of the coin, gloryfying the negative and condemning it in the same breath. A reoccuring theme on the record is insanity, whether one is driven to it by life itself ("Temporary Insanity"), or whether it's welcomed with open arms in prison, as heard on the gripping stories told on "La Conecta (Pts. 1 & 2)". Love and pain are exploited and exposed on "Love Letters", and "Premonitions" displays a readiness to face the world head-on. Every song lets shine the fact that the three rappers aren't afraid to express emotion, making the songs even more poignant. Prodution-wise, The Psycho Ward (B-Real, Duke, Jacken and Cypress Hill percussionist Bo-Bo) created a sound similar to partner DJ Muggs, but this doesn't take away from the value of the album. The music is exceedingly unique in its own right, as the album flows more like a complete symphony than a radio single-filled mess that plauged most Hip-Hop records at the time. In the end, the Psycho Realm's first (but not last; see: "A War Story") release was too far under the radar to be picked up by the masses. But those of us who still enjoy it to this day savor its perfection and boldness each time we listen.

this cd is one of the greatest cd's i have heard in a while. iconsider it a clasic along with canibus's new cd and "only builtfor cuban linx by reakwon. duke and jacken are ill rappers! these two rappers in my opinion are better than b-real in that they flow better and make me believe what there sayin is true since they say it with so much feeling. they got tight lyrics and are really smart. psycho realms new cd is really good too. b-real is only on one of the songs but that makes it better cuz duke and jacken are better rappers anyways. nott o dis b-real or anything but the second album is better and u can get it in local selling stores. b-real needs to start keepin it real like jacken and duke.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psycho Realm, December 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Psycho Realm (Audio CD)
This album is a must for any Cypress Hill fan. It's a new darker style but one you'll probably like. Now paralyzed from a gunshot to the throat Mr Duke and Jacken tell tales of the street from first hand experience. In their style they don't brag like other rappers about being hard and down etc. They have a different approach having to do with the reality which I think makes the difference.

This isn't the best Cypress Hill CD to date, this is the best rap album to date, period! If you're afraid to see the world around you as the twisted, sadistic psycho realm it really is and sample some advice from some hard-bitten street war veterans, then go buy the Backstreet Boys, 'cause this album will blow you away.

5.0 out of 5 stars love this cd - just a quick point, February 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Psycho Realm (Audio CD)
This a great cd from the a very underrated group but all I want to say that the Psycho Realm is not some Cypress Hill off-shoot or some B-Real side project, its alot more than that. Alot of the time people just refer to it in terms of Cypress - 'not bad if youre a big Cypress fan' or 'this B-real side project is alright' - now this really pi**es me off. The Psycho Realm existed before B-Real and after him (for a tragically short time)
and he liked them so much when he saw them in some club that he got on their first album and helped to expose. So come on give Duke and Jacken the respect they desevre as individuals not just because they're affiliated with B-Real. Also check out their second album 'A War Story' which is a significant improvement on this incredible album and is alot better without B-Real all over it.
