3.0 out of 5 stars "Psycho Sisters" is a veritable diamond in the rough.
It's all a matter of perspective. It's all a matter of perspective. Compared to the typical genre film you're going to find at your local video store, Pete Jacelone's gruesome, yet oddly tongue-in-cheek "Psycho Sisters" is a fairly average effort. Compared to the multitude of crappy shot-on-video horror/slasher flicks currently flooding the market, however, "Psycho Sisters" is a veritable diamond in the rough.

Jackie and Jane (Theresa Lynn and the indescribably yummy J.J. North, respectively) have witnessed both the violent murder/suicide of their parents and the brutal rape and murder of their sister Janice. Now, after years of therapy at the Lawrence Psychiatric Institute, the megalomaniacal Dr. Lawrence arbitrarily pronounces them cured and releases them back into an unsuspecting world. There, egged on by Jackie's conviction that all men are scum, the sisters embark on an all-male murder spree to avenge Janice's death. As the body count rises, a half-dozen groups - the police, a tabloid newspaper editor, a biker gang, etc. - begin hunting down the girls.

Fairly standard serial killer stuff, with the major twist being that the killers look like they've stepped off the pages of Playboy magazine, while the victims are all dorky guys. Sure it makes me a huge hypocrite, since I've pretty much shredded the whole serial killer genre in another review, but if every serial killer looked as sexy as J.J. North when wielding a lethal garden implement, I'd stop complaining.

"Psycho Sisters" ain't "Citizen Kane" - in fact, those two titles even look weird in the same sentence - but it's a solid, professional film with a definite undercurrent of (very) dark humor. If you're a horror/slasher afficionado, you'll at least get your money's worth with this one.
