5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!!
If you, (like me), are an eternal fan of: The Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox, Suspiria, Corpus Delicti, and Rosetta Stone, you will LOVE this album by THE MERRY THOUGHTS!!! I just received it in the mail today, and all I can say, is it's FABULOUS...most excellent. No Goth club DJ should be without it, and any fan of this genre most certainly shouldn't, either, in my...

'Will You' is the reason I bought this cd. The rest is pretty good as well.. This band sounds identical to the sisters of mercy. To those who know less they may even think this is the Sisters of Mercy but it's just a few guys doing their best sisters imitation. I'd be afraid to hear them actually cover a sisters song.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's the heat, December 29, 2004
This review is from: Psychocult (Audio CD)
Okay, yes, this sounds like The Sisters of Mercy. And yes, it's pretty good.

For those dying for that sound, since the Sisters haven't put out an album since 1990 and probably never will, The Merry Thoughts sound pretty damn good. More 90s-ish Sisters, really. But it's not an all-out ripoff.

There are at least five or six good songs here, and the whole album is smooth and a good beginning-to-end disc. The highlights are the title track, Chant, Low Violet, and We Love To, but everyone has favorites.

The vocals are the deep baritone, but not embarassing like some bands--here, the voice fits the music very well. The lyrics are not Eldritch, and I don't think they're going for that. There's a drum machine, yes, but also some loud keyboards. Chant in particular sounds like a (good) David Bowie track, and We Love To is more Sisters-ish, in the Vision Thing mold.

Yes, The Sisters influenced a lot of people. But there are some good albums out there in that mold, including an early Rosetta Stone disc or two. Given the dearth of new Sisters material (with the exception of live bootlegs), this is good without being the out-and-out ripoff, baritone, embarassing 'goth' sound some others go for.

But that's only my opinion. Recommended, if you can find it. Is this band no more?

This cd is a great example of classic old school gothic music and well worth having. Almost every track on this cd is excellent.Worth getting if you are still waiting for the Sister of Mercy to put something out or just want some great gothic music. Almost everything this band has put out is good. I wish they would get back together as I'm sure they have many more great songs yet to create.

The 2 releases by "the Merry Thoughts", is what the "Sisters of Mercy", should have been. Marvin Arkham vocals, and the bands xcellent gothic groove, bring Gothic music up to date, however, looking for a new release by tMT's soon... Buy both of these now...!!!

I bought this cd after hearing the band on some compilation discs. They sound amazingly like Sisters of Mercy (Vision Thing excluded). Vocals are almost dead on (not forced like some other Sisters knock off bands). If you are a fan of old school goth and want new material, this one is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Merry Sisters, May 1, 2001

When Andrew Eldritch found himself no longer on speaking terms with Warners, he packed his bags and vanished. Only to re-appear in germany as someone named Marvin Arkham, at the front of a Band called The Merry Thoughts, who sound startlingly identical to The Sisters of Mercy. What you have here is the 2000 release by the Sisters of Mercy, and it rocks. The Title track is an instant classic, the weakest moment is probably track 8 "Will You", a wierd, self deprecating love song, but even that has grown on me, and there isn't another track on the album that would sound out of place on the goth club dance floor. To sum up: A more subtle, developed sound, but still retains their famous Sisters distilled quality's. Totally Recomended.
