Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

While not a conventional self-help book, this informative guide discusses 27 common behavioral difficulties that can threaten mental and emotional well-being. These include obvious syndromes like food abuse and irrational fear, as well as common problems such as anger, boredom, and procrastination, which can be serious if exhibited in chronic or excessive patterns. Each chapter focuses on a single psychological syndrome, providing its characteristics, probable causes, practical coping strategies, and possible need for professional intervention. This book provides assistance in understanding maladaptive habits and offers guidance in overcoming them. Recommended as a sound introduction for general psychology and self-help collections.

More About the Author

I was born in Glendale, California. My parents were born in Italy. I earned a B.A. degree in psychology from UCLA, an M.A. degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in psychology from the Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California. I am the author of a number of nonfiction psychology books with major publishers including Think Yourself Thin, The Story of Psychology, The Family Mental Health Encyclopedia, and It's OK to Be Neurotic.

I have been employed in mental hospitals twice during my career, worked with a psychological group doing psychotherapy and psychological testing, and taught at the college level for more than forty years.

A science-fiction novel, Twinsouls, is available as an e-book with Amazon. This is a Doppelganger story, based on the notion that light speed matter transmission might, under certain circumstances, create a double of an original person.

I have nearly completed a novel based on life in a mental hospital.

Frank J Bruno's book Psychological Symptoms is a must read for all those feeling any phobia from alcoholism through to workaholism as well as those who have friends or family members who my be suffering from an irrational fear ( phobia ). Basically understanding your not going crazy or and that your not alone is half way to achieving a normal fulfilling life. The other half is up to you and you can acheive this through this book. Much like a psychological bible to those it has helped. Highly recommened.

5.0 out of 5 stars You're not crazy, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Psychological Symptoms (Paperback)
Thanks to this book I have now been able to identify what my anxiety is about and how I can cope with it in a constructive way. I had never heard of the terminology "free floating hostility". Unconsciously dealing with anger that I didn't realize I had was also an issue. If you read what Dr. Bruno provides in dealing with these issues you should be able to find relief. I highly recommend this book to people suffering from these two, and other personality disorders. Good luck and God bless.
