5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Psych Student to Active Professional., June 9, 2006
It is worth your money to purchase the latest edition (this one) than picking up a used first edition.

Very impressive array of universal tools and references for the psychology student, school counselor, chemical dependency counselor, psychologist and psychiatrist alike. Like a Cliff Notes on the practice on psychology.

Particularly useful is the "Compendium of Psychotherapy Treatment Manuals" including orientation, modality, and specific strengths. Charts, outlines, samples, generalized explanations and so on. Highly recommended having this handy. Believe it or not, a wonderful skim-read too to pique interest in specifics you may have not pondered for awhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars A one-stop-shop for addressing many of the more practical issues related to clinical practice & intervention, August 2, 2008
This is an excellent and comprehensive volume covering 140 different topics on issues relevant to the practice of clinical psychology. Each chapter is brief and focused, making it easy to find the most pertinent information on any given topic. For those topics not covered in the book directly, several chapters serve as compilations of resources to direct the reader where s/he can find additional information on a variety of subjects. This is a MUST HAVE book for every clinician's bookshelf - from the graduate trainee to the advanced clinician, this book will serve as an excellent addition to your library - providing a great first-stop resource for researching a particular topic. This book is an excellent value for the price and I highly reccomend it!

*Note: This reference volume is not compilation of treatments (although a few of the chapters do provide treatment information and others also direct you to where you can find these (ie - list of empirically supported treatments, list of empirically supported treatment manuals, etc). The chapters are grouped into the following categories, which give a better of idea of the kinds of resources this volume provides: Assessment and Diagnosis; Psychological Testing; Individual Psychotherapy and Treatment Couples, Family, and Group Treatment, Child and Adolescent Treatment, Biology and Pharmacotherapy; Self-Help Resources; Ethical adn Legal Issues; Forensic Matters; Practice Management; and Professional Resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome reference, November 25, 2008
Great reference book. Dr. Hill, Koocher and Norcross outdid themselves in putting this book together. What little was left out of or the many changes since the first edition were excellently crafted to make a valuable must have book for the psychologist.
