This I believe the first comprehensive scholarly volume devoted to a fundamental human quality-Gratitude. The editors Emmons and McCullough bring together scholars not only from Religion, but from a wide diversity of fields.
The contents of the volume are as follows:

Part I: Philosophical and Theological Foundations

2. Gratitude in the History of Ideas , Edward Harpham
3. Gratitude in Judaism , Solomon Schimmel
4. The Blessings of Gratitude: A Conceptual Analysis , Robert C. Roberts
Part II: Social, Personality and Developmental Approaches to Gratitude

5. Gratitude in Modern Life: Its Manifestations and Development , Dan P. McAdams and Jack Bauer
6. The Gratitude of Exchange and the Gratitude of Caring: A Developmental-Interactionist Perspective of Moral Emotions , Ross Buck
7. Parent of the Virtues? The Prosocial Contours of Gratitude , Michael E. McCullough and Jo-Ann Tsang
Part III: Perspectives from Emotion Theory

8. Gratitude (Like Other Positive Emotions) Broadens and Builds , Barbara L. Fredrickson

I purchased this book as I was interested in an overview of the extant literature on gratitude, and this 100% fit the bill! Covering a variety of perspectives on the phenomenology and consequences of gratitude (social psychology, anthropology, positive psychology, religion) it not only covered a lot of ground but also provided a starting point to dig into specific areas more deeply.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone interested in the psychology of gratitude!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The only thing is that it took longer than I thought to get the book in the mail. If you are thinking on purchasing this book, make sure that you have plenty of time to get it (specially if you need it for a class or for a school assignment). Other than that, I am happy.

I am deeply into the book and find it very helpful. During the first third of the book, various understandings of gratitude are discussed and the problems experienced are laid out. This was helpful.

I look forward to finishing the book in the next week or so!
