Book Description

April 17, 1996

Here Rollo May discusses our loss of our personal identity in the contemporary world, the sources of our anxiety, the scope of psychotherapy, and the ultimate paradox of freedom and responsibility.

Whether reflecting on war, psychology, or the ideas of existentialist thinkers such as Sartre and Kierkegaard, Dr. May everywhere enlarges our outlook on how people can develop creatively within the human predicament.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Paradox And Dilemma, March 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Psychology and the Human Dilemma (Paperback)
Rollo May is one of the most important voices in the history of psychology. How do we deal with the knowledge that we are going to die? How do we coexist with this and not render our lives meaningless? May is a brilliant thinker and theorist. Never offering simple solutions, he understands the importance of grappling with dilemmas and paradox. Ultimately, we find meaningful ways through our art, music, and relationships, etc. We find the courage to choose life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read, November 8, 2007
This review is from: Psychology and the Human Dilemma (Paperback)
Every young psychotherapist should have to read Rollo May or some of the other existential humanistic therpapists. Homework assignments may change behavior but presence changes both the client and therapist!

4.0 out of 5 stars Jeff, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Psychology and the Human Dilemma (Paperback)
It was very good, but every human being should read Ernest Becker's: The Denial of Death, and then Norman O. Brown's book Life Against Death: The Psychoanalytical Meaning of History. These books are master pieces!
