Book Description

August 15, 2008 6 and upBook & CD Rom
Book with CD-Rom

Are people more logical or emotional? How do people make judgments? Do males and females see things differently? Can we shape other people’s behavior? Are we more alike or more different? Based on science and sound psychological concepts and research, 40 interesting experiments make it fun for kids to learn about what makes people tick. Each experiment, explained with step-by-step instructions, sharpens young people’s skills as experimenters, researchers, and observers of human nature. The more teens find out about others, the more they learn about themselves.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 4^-6. A follow-up to Psychology for Kids (1990), which helps children learn about their own behavior, this book explores why others behave as they do. People, paper and pencils, and a copy machine to reproduce written tests are the principal requirements of the 40 experiments, which investigate such things as gender differences, learning skills, perception, and logic. Kincher adds a sprinkling of classic concepts and terms and guidelines for interpretation. She also makes it clear that the experiments aren't rigorously scientific, just fun and challenging. A great change from the usual "science experiment" book, this will leave some kids absolutely fascinated. Stephanie Zvirin --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

About the Author

J. Kincher was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Colorado and California. She received her education in psychology at California State University, San Bernardino. Her interest in psychology began when she was in third grade, but there weren’t many psychology books for young children “back then,” so she designed special courses in academic psychology for third grade through high school and created her own materials. She began teaching “Psychology for Kids Playshops” so “kids” could use their natural curiosity about themselves to learn the basics of psychology as an academic discipline and thus be introduced to another area of study in the social sciences. The ideas and materials for her books were developed and tested in the Playshops. She also is the author of the award-winning Psychology for Kids Vol. 2: 40 Fun Experiments That Help You Learn About Others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Psychology for Kids II, August 9, 2007
This is a great book, but it is different from Book I. While Book I has quizzes for the individual to take, this book has experiments that are done sometimes with groups of people. It is still a fun book, but we were hoping for more of an extension of book I. I'd recommend looking at the table of contents before purchasing.

3.0 out of 5 stars For school or work with groups of kids., March 8, 2007

I am a Clinical Psychologist and I bought the book thinking it would have a lot of practical excercise to do in a clinical set, but not, the exercise are good but to do with a lot of time and many kids, needs more than 2, so , can be great for a psychologist that works in a school or with groups.

This review is from: Psychology for Kids Vol. 2: 40 Fun Experiments That Help You Learn About Others (Book & CD Rom) (Paperback)
I've used this book/CD rom numerous times for a high school Psychology class. Even though it's Psych for KIDS, I find that the older kids get a kick out of the pages and it starts wonderful discussions. I also have VOL 1 and it's just as great.
