Outstanding Coverage,

This review is from: Psychology of Language (Hardcover)
Even though this book is considered an elementary introduction, it is thorough, complete and up-to-date. Written with great clarity, it manages to cover the state of the art at a detailed level. It is clearly a textbook, but it provides enough reference materials for additonal study if desired. The publisher's review is understated. Recommended for anyone interested in the subject.

A technical analysis,

This review is from: Psychology of Language (with InfoTrac ) (Hardcover)
I know linguistics are very technical, but it seems like the first half of this book goes a little deeper than necessary. As a psychologist, I'm personally interested in how people use language, not the tiniest details of how language is constructed. Although the first half of the book is (in my opinion) overly technical, the second half of the book does a great job of describing the empirical research regarding the use of language in discourse and conversation, its acquisition, etc. These are topics of interest to me, and the latter half did a great job with them.

extremely frustrating,

This review is from: Psychology of Language (Kindle Edition)
This Kindle version is almost useless as a textbook. There are no location markers. The student has no way to find relevant material except to search page by page, endlessly pushing the forward button.
The figures in the book are not marked or searchable, so they're not available even under a direct know-what-word-you're looking-for search. I saved money by getting theKindle version and I'm very sorry that I did. Studying for exams or just trying to find your place in a previous location is more trouble than it's worth. I usually have to find another student with a printed version of the text to find the information I need. I'm very unhappy with the purchase and will never get a textbook from this company again in a Kindle version.
