This review is from: Psychology of Orphans (Paperback)
If you are a prospective adoptive parent, there are other books that will be more helpful to you. This book is very academic and difficult to read. More importantly, it focuses on children who are raised in the orphanage system, not those that are adopted. I was looking for a book that would explain how institutionalization affects very young children (newborns through ages 2 or 3) who are subsequently adopted. What issues do they face? Can they be overcome if the child is placed with a loving forever family? What challenges will linger? What challenges can surface several years later that are not evident initially? Etc. I did not get those answers in this book.
