5.0 out of 5 stars A book that must be reprinted., August 24, 2002
By
This review is from: The Psychology of Rumor (Textbook Binding)
The formula that is given in this book has become an important formula in socialogy, and can be found easily in other books. Yet, this book is one of those books that should be more avalible, since it contains a lot more than just this formula. This book was one of the most important book in my graduation-project and the fact that I couldn't read all of it, but only a couple of chapters, and the fact that I couldn't find it anywhere made me feel that I missed important information (My project, spread over 140 pages, got a 100, by the way). This book is very well written, and is understandable even for people with no background in socialogy or psychology. The writers make the reading interesting, and even funny sometimes. "The Psychology of Rumor" is an important book for every socialogy or psychology student, and it must become more avalible.

5.0 out of 5 stars tipping point, November 17, 2011

Just Me (here and there across the USA) - See all my reviews
Mentioned in Gladwell's The Tipping Point, starting on page 201. Discusses how stories are changed (distorted) to make the rumor more "appealing", thus causing it to spread.

To quote Allport, "In their effort after meaning, the subjects would condense or fill in so as to achieive a better 'Gestalt,' a better closure -- a simpler, more significant configeration."
