This fascinating text--of interest to laymen and professionals alike--examines the legal system through the use of psychological concepts, methods, and research results. It seeks to clarify the basic dilemmas that persist in the legal system and looks at the ethical, moral, legal, and psychological "gray areas" of the law including coverage of such topics as: competence to stand trial, pretrial publicity and resulting changes in venue, criminal profiling, civil case law and civil procedures, the rights of children, capital punishment, the psychology of criminal trials, the insanity defense, expert forensic testimony, and analysis of eyewitness identification and line-up procedures.

5.0 out of 5 stars an old text but excellent survey, March 26, 2006
This review is from: Psychology and the Legal System With Infotrac (Spiral-bound)
too frugal to purchase a more current edition, i plunked down $4. this was a fine undergraduate introduction to the criminal justice system and psychological applications therein. a light read, often entertaining. an excellent survey of the field, although, the common complaint of survey texts that it doesn't "do justice" (bad pun) to enough topics could be argued here, too. it helped me to identify some topics about which i'd like to learn more and it identified some useful sources.
