Editorial Reviews

From the Author

As the Senior Author and Series Editor, I am pleased to announce that new editions of four of our Treatment Planners, Homework Planners, and Progress Notes Planners have been released. We have been working on them as a team of authors for over two years. I am indebted to my coauthors who have deep expertise in the clinical field addressed in each Planner. I salute them and I believe you will find their work to be of the highest clinical caliber.

This new edition of the Homework Planner includes new exercises to help the client work toward recovery between treatment sessions. Each chapter in the Homework Planner has homework tasks that are created specifically for a problem dealt with in the parallel Treatment Planner. Although each homework assignment is tied to an Intervention in its parallel Treatment Planner, the exercises are created to stand alone as useful without using the Treatment Planner content. Some of the exercises have been shortened to make client compliance more likely and new homework assignments have been added also. Chapters dealing with new problems in the Treatment Planner have resulted in a new set of 3-5 homework exercises in the Homework Planner to support Interventions for that new problem. If you have not tried using our Homework Planners, I think you will find them an excellent adjunct to increase client treatment engagement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Brief Homework Excercises January 16, 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
These assignments are a wonderful adjunct to the therapy process. They are very down-to-earth and practical -- no off-the-wall stuff here, just common sense, mainline psychology applied to everyday life circumstances. They are not too long so the client will be more apt to complete them. The exercises are focused on common presenting problems (Anger Management, Chemical Dependence, Depression, Sexual Dysfunction, Intimate Relationship Conflict, etc.) and they can be copied directly from the book or customized on your computer and printed from the CD that is included. If you are using The Complete Adult Psychotherapy Treatment Planner to formulate your client's treatment plan, these asignments are fully integrated with the presenting problems in the Treatment Planner book. I also like the fact that these assignments can be accessed in TheraScribe, the computerized treatment planning software, if you purchase the additional module that can be installed into the program. These Practice Planner materials save a lot of time and enhance the treatment process. You will not be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can't print kindle edition July 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So, I love this book but am only giving it three stars for the Kindle edition. The reason is because I found out that printing directly from the Kindle app is not permitted and the main reason I bought this book is to print the handouts. I tried to take a screen shot of the photos of handouts in the book to use but they are very poor quality and can't be read when enlarged for 8x11 paper. I also tried to copy and paste the material into Word and it lost all of its formatting. It took me a long time to re-format everything to resemble the handout that is in the book. The print version of this book is "copy-ready" to print the handouts and it comes with a CD with handouts to print at ones leisure. I truly do not understand why it can't be printed from the Kindle app...if Kindle is worried about us making unauthorized copies from digital versions of books, they should reflect on the fact that we can all use a copy machine to do the same with printed books.

Great book though...I just recommend getting the print version for a 5 star experience. :-) A lesson learned. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for My Practice January 18, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Well worth the price and a great additional to my practice. Now I have professional hand-outs for those clients who are motivated to work between sessions. The homework hand-outs are practical and not cumbersome. Topics include those that relate to substance abuse, grief, parenting, couples, problem solving, anxiety and phobias, career planning, self esteem, positive thoughts, and other practical topics. I find that I can use almost all of the assignments for my various clients. Often when I buy a book I only use a portion of it. However, this one is a keeper from cover to cover. Using these assignments has moved my practice to the next level in professionalism and effectiveness. Book includes a DVD that you can download to your computer making it extremely easy to duplicate.

5.0 out of 5 stars every client should have this homeworkd July 20, 2008
By R. Crum
Format:Paperback
it helps when clients that want to make changes in their lifes can see in frount of them work they are doing to make that change. my therapist didn't provide me with homework, so i went out and got my own! i think homework should be a part of every therapy duration. even if you give them a sheet and tell them they can do it when they are ready, just to leave it on there coffee table or some other place they can see it a lot and so they can think about the questions, and then they can do it at their own pace and when they are done and ready to discusse it they can bring it back.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like the entire series.. May 25, 2014
By chris
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
usually these books cover almost everything, but you can see the table of contents online before you buy. I also have parole and probation, group, and many others, including the therapy planners. The homework planners have a cd, so you can make changes to the exercises and activities before printing. Personally, I use the therapy and the homework series and I feel it is enough for me because the former helps you write notes, and also get an idea of what you should do with your clients if you need some direction so I didn't buy notes planners; and the latter is flexible. if you have to choose between the two, I would recommend therapy over homework because homework you can find online. Contact me if you need info on websites, I have collected some resources

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful March 5, 2014

I am able to select exercises for the topic I discussed during my sessions. Some people understand better with a written exercise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for clinicians June 19, 2014
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The days of endless therapy are long past - for one thing, insurance companies will no longer pay for years of therapy - so therapists are under increasing pressure to provide results in a timely fashion. The use of homework in therapy has been gaining in popularity for quite a few years, as an adjunct to face to face counseling. For one thing, it helps keep clients focused on their treatment goals during the period between counseling appointments, and it provides a tangible resource for clients. For years therapists have put together homework materials from various sources. Finally there's a well-organized, all-in-one source for homework

The Adult Psychotherapy Homework Planner is an excellent collection of useful homework guides for the gamut of problems/issues which influence clients to seek counseling.

Highly recommended.
