5.0 out of 5 stars DJ DFUSEs another explosive album
For trance fans mesmerized by the deeper, more passionate sounds of world-class DJ's like Sasha, Armin Van Buren and Tiesto, DFUSE puts together his second commercial compilation that easily ranks with the best trance-mix album releases in recent history.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not so great?
hey this is a pretty good CD but not as good as the 2000 edition, and definitely as good as a live show. If you are a d:fuse fan buy it but if not, start with psychotrance 2000!

4.0 out of 5 stars A little more subdued than Psychotrance 2000, July 10, 2002
This review is from: Psychotrance 2001 (Audio CD)
Techno music can never be relaxing; that is never its purpose or its consequences, but this mix is certainly more "relaxed" compared to the earlier mix "Psychotrance 2000". The DJ takes us through a different journey in this compilation, but it is still 21st century music. It departs from norms and takes no part in tradition. It looks ahead and never behind and takes as axiomatic that the past is as a catapult, and the future as always refreshing.

The tracks: 1. "You Got It": An introduction to what's ahead. 2. "Choose Life" has vocals, delightfully competing with the turntable for domination. 3. "Ruhe": A visit to a European dance floor. No worries here, just intermixing. 4. "Mindless": No room on the dance floor. Sweat is the dancer's body oil; their proof of joy. 5. "Perspectives": A proliferation of patterns and regularity, and a hard accent every two beats. 6. "I'm Not Existing": The best track on the CD. Subtle background whispers overlaid on steady rhythmic patterns. 7. "D-Fly": Malevolent in the beginning but such outlooks are forbidden in this music, so it breaks free, as it must. 8. "Search and Rescue": Erotic, seductive, feminine. 9. "Forsaken": The vocals echo and are a source of temptation. They permit no stillness. 10. "Belive": No rest and no respite from movement. One of its themes keeps growing, but is suddenly overpowered by vocals. 11. "Solid Ground": The vocals echo, the themes repititious, but the effect is satisfaction.

Several tracks I haven't heard yet with a couple recent favorites mixed together beautifully by DFUSE, who is under-appreciated in the US Trance scene, easily one of the best DJ's in America (a la Sandra Collins) but mixing with more passion and style than many of his conterparts. He makes me want to go roll!

This one's staying in my changer for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense, emotional, and needing a name change, July 18, 2000
This review is from: Psychotrance 2001 (Audio CD)
Branding the name "psychotrance" and tossing the term "anthem" around surely isn't the easiest way to get an audience to pick up your music. Thank goodness for false advertising; adventurous listeners will find D:Fuse has collected for your aural pleasure one of the most accessible and progressive mixes to be released in some time. Let's not call them anthems; most of these tracks are proven winners that resist the urge to breakdown and drum roll spasm every few minutes.

If this were all about stringing hits together though, well DJ ProTools would have sufficed. D:Fuse knows how to pick the hits and mix them into a propulsive blend. He throws out the looped funkiness of Humate's "Choose Life," featuring the smoothest voice this side of Seal, then blends dangerously into "Ruhe" another deep and dark monster. Even the interlude tracks like "Mindless" are stellar, as is the LSG excellence of "I'm Not Existing."

There's a stumble in the middle ("Perspectives" veers into electro-dance obviousness,) but that's momentary. The anthems kick in at the end, and by then you'll want that last push over the top. D:Fuse serves up the squelching energy of "Believe" by The Traveller and the Motion, and ends with the angelic wonder "Solid Ground," .following the trance formula to perfection.

Psychotrance 2001 doesn't forge new ground, or uncover any obscure gems, but as a listening experience it's top notch. Intense, emotional, and needing a name change, the grade is A-.

2.0 out of 5 stars WHERE'S THE INTENSITY?, January 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Psychotrance 2001 (Audio CD)
I don't understand why people gave this five stars. This album has weak or little build-ups if any, and is just kind of plain. I agree with the other two reviewers who gave it lower than 5 stars. I go clubbing a lot, and am able to get a wide range of hard club music, trance/progressive house. This album would get NO play anywhere. I have heard that D-FUSE is a good DJ, but his album is nothing to get excited about. This only contains 1 or 2 tight tracks on it. Weak, mellow, and garbage, is what it is. DO NOT WASTE THE MONEY ON THIS ALBUM!

4.0 out of 5 stars A review from allmusic.com, September 17, 2001
This review is from: Psychotrance 2001 (Audio CD)
Here a review from Jason Birchmeier(AMG EXPERT) from allmusic.com:
Fuse's second release in Moonshine's Psychotrance series finds the Texas DJ moving away from the anthemic trance of Psychotrance 2000 toward a darker style of deep progressive house. The monstrous buildups and breakdowns have been replaced by a constant driving tempo with plenty of atmospheric aura and pumping rhythms. There are a few moments such as during LSG's "I'm Not Existing (O. Lieb Main Mix)" and Highland's "Forsaken (Part 2)" when big synth riffs come into play, reminding listeners that this is indeed trance music even if D:Fuse has moved away from many of the genre's more obvious characteristics. The best moments on the mix come during the final few tracks when the music becomes increasingly melodic with beautiful synths and some complimenting elegant female vocals. Besides the smooth finale where D:Fuse opts to conclude the album with feelings of gentle aural beauty rather than steamy intensity, the album maintains a nice feel throughout, never hitting an obvious lull or an overdone peak.

5.0 out of 5 stars D:Fuse comes through with a second excellent mix cd, June 25, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Psychotrance 2001 (Audio CD)
For me, D:Fuse's "Psychotrance 2000" was a pleasant surprise, as I had not been accustomed to encountering first-rate trance mixes on the Moonshine label (in the past six months or so, there have been several, however, including Christopher Lawrence's latest). In this subsequent volume in the Psychotrance series, D:Fuse has not played it safe by assembling a soundalike mix patterned after "2000," but has plunged headlong into the refreshingly deeper and darker sound that has characterized so many of the trance releases this year. While I would not characterize "Psychotrance 2001" as the best trance mix of the year (for me, that honor currently goes to Sasha and Digweed's amazing 2 cd set, "Communicate") it certainly is among the best. He does include a few tracks that are receiving a lot of play elsewhere--for example, Schiller's "Ruhe," Oliver Lieb's "I'm Not Existing, and the wonderfully haunting song by Carissa Mondavi,"Solid Ground." But one can hardly fault D:Fuse for choosing tracks that are fine enough to be favored by multiple dj's. Overall, he has put together a fine combination of trance tunes and has mixed them well. Considering the low price at which this mix can be purchased, I would say that trance fans will not regret picking up this disc and giving it a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than last, June 19, 2000

Psychotrance 2001 is filled with great harmonizing beats that interchange to form some wonderful tracks. The last psychotrance was very well done but this album has edged it out as it should. If you are a trance head than this is a must get.
