Euphoria, ecstasy, and out of dimension experience.,

Toni Halliday's voice hypnotizes and softly penetrates you like a dream. The melodic guitar, divine rhythm, soothing bass, all blends in eachother beautifully, unknowingly, comparable to Debussy. This album could make you headbang, strip, and pray all at the same time.

A showcase of Curve's best work,
By
This review is from: Pubic Fruit (Audio CD)
Back in the era of "shoegazing" (late 80's, early 90's), when Brit bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Ride ruled the alternative landscape, there was another band that kicked serious... Curve. Fronted by Toni Haliday, Curve showcased her dreamy, yet occasionally menacing vocal style. She was the sort of starlet who could carry the band - kind of a precursor to Shirley Manson, the face behind Garbage. But the early iterations of Curve were less about the vocals, and more about the smorgasbord of sounds permeating through each track. Swirling, howling guitars intersect with the drum machines and traces of electronica to create sounds that cannot be classified as being dance music or mood music or whatever. Ten Little Girls, Blindfold, Frozen, and Clipped are the stellar tracks. Public Fruit is a collection of Curve's first 3 EPs. Public Fruit stands out, along side My Bloody Valentine's Loveless and Isn't Anything, as being a seminal CD from a long-gone era.

The music will speak for itself,

Very highly comparable to the alternative directions of Lush and the now faded Lulabox, this group holds its own and this great compilation is a testament to that. A collection of the band's EP singles, Pubic Fruit engages you with every song one right after the other. Forget about buying an album because there's only one song on it that you want- you will come out feeling you bought this album for every song that's on it, and worth every single penny at that. It's that good. "Pubic Fruit" scores much higher than their earlier efforts in "Doppleganger" as well as the follow up "Cuckoo", and so it is amazing that a random compilation such as this comes out sounding amazingly focused and rich with substance at the same time. Six stars out of five.

The Best of Curve,
This review is from: Pubic Fruit (Audio CD)
This is easily the best of all of Curves work. I loved the Frozen EP right from the start, unfortunatly the EP got scratched and I had spent years looking for another copy, then Curve brought this complilation out, FANTASTIC. All of those low thundering bass lines, the etherial voice of Toni Haliday, all back and coming out of my stereo once more. Aaaaaaa..... all I can say is thank you Curve, my life is complete again!

Some of these tracks are Curve's very best. The extended remix of Fait Accompli is excellent.

Not Really Garbage,

Pubic Fruit is a collection of early British EP's from the band.
Often times compared to the band Garbage, I can see the resemblances in places; but to me they seem to more often sound like the Jesus and Mary Chain with a female vocalist. The feel/texture of the songs are quite often ripe with a swirling guitar buried beneath a throbbing rhythmn, the vocals can be described as goth/alternative perhaps, and are to me quite often just another element to the structure of the songs, an instrument in the mix, that you can quite often just get an "oooo" a couple times and it gets the job done. So it's great danceable, somewhat goth tinged, superb music that sounds great late at night, or anytime really. Everything on here sounds like a song you would hear in a dark club late at night/wee hours. Favs include "No Escape From Heaven", "Coast Is Clear", "Ten Little Girls", and "The Colour Hurts". Classic club tracks from this vastly underrated band from the early 90's.

The Start Of A Great Band,
By
This review is from: Pubic Fruit (Audio CD)
"Pubic Fruit" is actually a compilation of EP's, that Curve had first released in the early 90's. But listening to this album, you wouldn't even know. The album flow remarkably well from start to finish. Curve is one of the biggest sleeper bands ever. Their trademark thrash metal guitars with techno beats and Halliday's sensual goth like female vocals is so out there, that no one has come close or sounds anything like them. And that's a great thing. Garbage must have been a fan of Curve, because they're are similarities in their music, but I like them both for different reasons. Stand out songs for me are "Galaxy", "Coast Is Clear", "Ten Little Girls" and "Die Like A Dog".

curve at their best,

curve began their recording career with some wonderful music. they got out of the blocks with a bang on their first EPs. their later music is good, but in my mind they never matched the energy and power of their early works. this cd is highly recommended!

Actually, Curve music is not an easy listening, if you consider what music market offers today...when I saw Curve on MTV for the first time in 1992 I felt that their music was different from any other sound I heard before. No compomise, you can love them or hate them because I think it's hard that somebody could think that their sound is "nice". Maybe weird, or the best ever but not middle way. I cant't tell you that this music is a mix of electronic rock, goth or something else, because is not. Only think that maybe it deserves you to run the risk to buy it.
