About the Author

Jim Turrell understands the difficulty of putting together presentations that will capture the listeners attention at the level of their greatest interest, their hearts. As a leader, businessman, former public school teacher, professional musician, and minister, he has experienced the challenge of having to construct new and original messages each and every week.

Faced with having to teach new ministers the art of public speaking, he began research into Public Speaking From The Heart. Mr. Turrell found most available material on public speaking overly mechanical, relying on formulas that stunt originality, keeping the student from developing their own style. Books on public speaking tend to put too much emphasis on analysis and control of your audience, in the process of trying to encourage you to be yourself.

Turrell credits his teaching experience for keen insight into taking complicated skills and making them simple and achievable. He professes, You dont have to be a mechanic to know how to drive a car. Turrell spent over four years developing Speaking From The Heart, purposefully, keeping it intelligent but practical.

Over the last several years, hundreds of professionals have taken his class on Speaking From The Heart, and/or purchased his self published book, with remarkable results.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Public Speaking from the Heart " Saved the Day, February 6, 2002
By
Joanne Tucker (Costa Mesa, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Public Speaking From The Heart (Paperback)
My fear of speaking in public was astronomical, to say the least, from earlier dyslexic experiences that left me in grave doubt about my ability to speak up without embarrassment.
One day, my greatest fear rose up and hit me square in the face...I was to speak at a corporate meeting with many successful executives from a Fortune 500 company. "Oh God," I remember saying several days before the event, "send help! Now!"
I picked up this little book entitled "Public Speaking from the Heat" and found my answer. Reading it voraciously, I then practiced some of the exercises, one in particular. Standing and orally practicing "felt needs" over and over, my confidence began to blossom. I wanted the listeners at the meeting to hear my point of view until they could say, "I know what she's talking about!"
At the meeting, when it came time to give my speech, I said to myself, "I will no longer react to my mental breakdowns and instead focus right now on achieving my goal." I stood up and delivered a speech that even surprised me! Afterwards, people came up and said that I had changed their minds about the subject of our discussion because of my heart-felt sincerity.
I can truly say that "Public Speaking from the Heart" saved the day, and now I'm more confident, relaxed and willing to speak in public.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful & effective, January 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Public Speaking From The Heart (Paperback)
"This book was a delight to breeze through. The exercises are revealing. It is evident that the author's experience reveals the capability to speak authoritatively about public speaking and specifically in regards to speaking from the heart. While reading this book, I experienced a personal shift in perception of how I have viewed my ability, as well as courage, to practice the art of speaking from the heart both publicly and in my personal conversations. What a gift this book was for me, to find something so simple to read, easy to comprehend, and immediately applicable to more than just public speaking!"

Hi, I already wrote a review on Public Speaking from the Heart and "Heart" was spelled "Heat." Could you please change it for me. I'm embarrassed that I misspelled the title of the book. Joanne Tucker of Costa Mesa.
