5.0 out of 5 stars David Feldman and Paul Silvia give plenty of tips, April 13, 2010
This review is from: Public Speaking for Psychologists: A Lighthearted Guide to Research Presentation, Jobs Talks, and Other Opportunities to Embarrass Yourself (Paperback)
The most brilliant person in the world can still flub his lines in front of millions. "Public Speaking for Psychologists: A Lighthearted Guide to Research Presentations, Job Talks, and Other Opportunities to embarrass Yourself" looks into what many psychologists may struggle to do despite having a good idea how the human mind works - speaking in front of a crowd of them. David Feldman and Paul Silvia give plenty of tips to do that report or presentation with flying colors. "Public Speaking for Psychologists" is worth to have on hand for any psychological library collection.

This is a funny and easy book to read but very informative at the same time. My professor was actually Paul Silvia and he's a really cool guy; he's got a sarcastic sense of humor and really down to earth. This is a must-read if you're a PSYCH major because you'll be giving a lot of presentations in your career!

This book was entertaining to read and didn't really feel like work. It offered helpful suggestions and I recommend it to anyone thinking about giving a presentation (particularly psych types). The best praise I can give it was after reading it I went ahead and bought another one of the author's books and now I like that one too: How to Write a Lot: A Practical Guide to Productive Academic Writing

This book is one of the more useful titles in my collection. It's great not just for psychologists and others who give talks regularly, it is also an effective tool for occasional (terrified) speakers (who may self-generate bouts of nervous bowel syndrome in response to public speaking) in general. The advice in this sage-yet-irreverent volume is both practical and hysterical, and it's a fast read which leaves time to OWN your first post-read public speaking engagement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and fun read, December 17, 2011

I bought this when I had a psychology poster presentation coming up. It helped me a lot to get together ideas for the kind of things to say when giving the initial presentation, and how to make the "browsing" part (where people just walk around and read the posters) interactive and successful. The presentation (my first one) ended up going really well, and I (at least partly) thank this book for that.

It's also really fun to read, and funny at times too.

I had been a while since I last felt like I could not put a book down.
The authors did a great job.
I recommend this book to any person who gets VERY nervous about public speaking and wants to be prepared.
