Book Description

October 1995
This text, which comes with a CD-ROM, explores every facet of Web publishing, beginning with an exploration of Web publishers' connectivity options. It considers all of the technical and procedural aspects of Web publishing, including the use of the HTML markup language and HTML editors. Multimedia resources are explored, and tips and how-to instruction provided for creating MPEG videos, scanned GIF and JPEG images, Adobe Acrobat documents, and more. The author provides pointers on integrating the Web publishing enterprise with leading multimedia applications. An important function of this book is the full documentation of the rich new HTML tools created by Netscape Corporation for use with Netscape Navigator 1.1. These tools, including tables and other formats, are expected to become part of the emerging HTML 3.0 specification. The accompanying CD-ROM includes software essential for Web publishing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and enjoyable, January 29, 1998

I would recommend this book to people who have browsed the web and now want to get involved in writing their own web pages. I love the fact its Macintosh oriented! Also, this book takes you through a (brief) history of hypertext, html, etc. and explains (briefly) the controversies between purists and standardizers - I have a better understanding of where all this came from. Pfaffenberger is an excellent and entertaining writer - maybe a little tiny bit simplistic in some ways but not condescendingly patronizing and very thorough. After having looked through several books including "HTML for Dummies" (definitely condescending) and another thick book professing to give you everything you need to know on running a website (which was written by a compendium of people and assumed you understood all sorts of things) - I would say this is a great starting point. (I rated a 9 because I feel there is ALWAYS room for improvement...)
