More About the Author

Emma Quay (pronounced 'kway') grew up in England, and has wanted to illustrate children's books for as long as she can remember. Since moving to Sydney in 1993, Emma has illustrated a wide range of award-winning children's picture books. Her memorable characters for "Bear and Chook", "Good Night, Me", "Reggie and Lu", "Daddy's Having a Horse" and "Cheeky Monkey" are favourites on many children's and library bookshelves. Emma is the author of the popular series of titles for very young children, "Friends for Keeps" ("Freinds are Forever" in the UK; "Hello, Friends" in the U.S.), illustrated by Anna Walker, and her much-anticipated recent collaboration with author Lisa Shanahan, "Bear and Chook by the Sea", is short listed for this year's CBCA Book of the Year Awards.

A new picture book, "Shrieking Violet", which Emma both wrote and illustrated, is due for release in August 2010.

My grandson is only a year old, and he likes more interactive books for him know - for instance touch and feel or moving parts. Perhaps when he is older he will like it more.

I love this book. I was telling friends and family about it and they thought I was silly. A co-worker and I read it together when it came and laughed and laughed. Great choice for little ones.

This is such a sweet little story. It's quick and fun to read. My 14 month old usually likes me to read it to him at least 3 times in a row...

"Owl and Panda watch her... fall on her bottom! But it doesn't hurt at all."

Such a nice book... our 18 month old loves it. It is a very short book, so it's nice to have it at bed time when we want to steer him to something quick.

This delightful story follows three friends, Panda, Owl, and Sheep, as they play together. Panda and Owl have a wonderful time jumping over a puddle, but Sheep is afraid he might fall. His friends encourage him to try anyway. When he decides to try, he ends up falling, but he also finds that it was fun! The story is handled well, and is a wonderful way to interact with children both about facing their own fears and about interacting with friends who are fearful.

The illustrations are lovely as well. The pictures seem to be cut out of fabric, and the look is both clever and charming. Highly recommended--especially for preschoolers.
