Product Description

Jesse Wallace’s dilemma is that he knows too much. He knows all the deepest, darkest secrets in the little town of Briley, Oregon. But he can’t tell a living soul. He knows the daughter of the town’s most successful rancher is addicted to drugs. He knows Briley’s highly respected parson is having an affair with a local prostitute. He knows the details of a young girl’s kidnapping, and he saw two horrible murders. But he can’t inform the town sheriff or the state police. In fact, he can’t say a single word at all, because one of those murders was his own. Jesse’s dead, and he’s stuck on the other side.

Ever hear the story about the ghost in the whorehouse? This is it.

This review is from: Puddle of Love (Kindle Edition)
I received a notice from my Kindle Nation subscription that this novel was free for a time. Free books are very hit or miss. Some authors are trying to get their books read, while others might have a series of books they want to introduce to Kindle readers. Even if this one was beyond my usual price point of $9.99 for ANY ebook, I would break my commandment and buy it. It's just THAT GOOD! This is a taut, suspenseful, nasty piece of fiction. Set in Oregon during the early eighties, this has all the elements of a terrific story: an unsolved murder, two psychopaths with a penchant for dismemberment, some hookers with the proverbial heart of gold, an aging biker, and assorted other people living in and around Briley, Oregon. Briley hasn't seen much in the way of action recently, but that is all about to change when some hikers make a grisly discovery deep in the woods. This sets off a chain of events which explode around the small town. Told in riveting detail and from multiple perspective, this novel is as gripping as anything I have read in recent memory. Slightly reminiscent of some of the fiction of Stephen Hunter (i.e. DIRTY WHITE BOYS), it's a fast-paced and gripping ride. I literally could not put it down. HIGHLY recommended
