Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1-Pudgy, a puppy, and Lucy, a little girl, are both sad and lonely until they find one another and become friends. The two "play together and they stay together. Forever- and ever." Told in very simple language and illustrated with bold, full-page, colorful cartoonlike drawings that complement the playful text, this satisfying title has plenty of child appeal.

More About the Author

After working as a children's bookseller for a number of years I became a mother and began writing books myself. That was almost twenty years ago, and I have now had more than seventy books published. Board books, picture books, early reading books, novels for junior age, and one adult novel. I mix writing with teaching adults who want to write for children, and doing school visits where I try to enthuse the children about stories and books and their own potential as writers. It's a very enjoyable way to make a living!

1.0 out of 5 stars Cute pictures, no story!, April 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pudgy: A Puppy To Love (Hardcover)
Even for preschoolers, this text has little to offer. It's even hard to find the lonely dog and girl in one spread filled with kids cuddling dogs. The "story" claims no one would play with them and the reader is left saying, "Huh?" Come on, young readers deserve more than this lame attempt! If you're looking for a fun dog book for kids, I recommend "Little Dog Poems" by Kristine o'Connell George.

My little girl adores this book, and I have renewed our library copy twice now. It's so simple that she can recite the text to herself as she flips through the pages. And the fact that there are just two primary characters makes the story easy for her to grasp. Mommy and daughter both highly recommend this for wee ones.
