Favorite Latin pianist!, August 17, 2004
This review is from: Puerto Padre (Audio CD)
Being a Jazz fan I could not turn away from the tremendous pianisimo of Cuban and Afro Cuban music. I love, loved, Ruben Gonsalez, Peruchin, Bebo Valdes, Noro Morales, of course the Puerto Rican Nuyorkian Palmieri brothers-BUT, do not miss out on Emiliano Salvador! He died a very young man, and he is as fine a second generation pianist as Chucho Valdes, Alfredo Rodriguez, Hilario Duran-the list goes on. Salvador really became a world class jazz pianist, but lived only to make about a half-dozen recordings. This one is my favorite because it is his most down home, trad Afro Cuban. It features terrific fellow musicians, everyone has great jazz licks, but it remains mostly traditional finely funkafied. A must have for Latin and piano connoisuers.
