Short stories, highly folkloric.,
By ocolon@tld.net (Puerto Rico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Puerto Rican in New York, and Other Sketches (New World Paperbacks) (Paperback)
Jesus Colon arives in NY 1917, writes about personal and other anecdotes of himself and family. Some have thought it is an autobiography, since I am his niece I can say it is not. But there is a lot of merit in the folkloric of his characters and I asure you some stories are true. It is up to the reader to enjoy. Soon the memoirs of his brother/ my father, will reveal and confirm his stories.

A Puerto Rican in New York, And Other Sketches,
By Dina B. (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Puerto Rican in New York, and Other Sketches (New World Paperbacks) (Paperback)
Jesus Colon writes in such a clear, concise way, it is a pleasure to read.
This book opened my eyes to the many hardships of Puerto Ricans experience in NYC at the turn of the century and beyond. Each "sketch" (essay) made me either smile, sad, or just made me think. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about the history of NYC and wants to learn something.
