5.0 out of 5 stars Should be paired with "The Shawshank Redemption"
A very funny movie from director/poducer/star Mekhi Phiffer about two guys who just want to watch the Shawshank Redemption marathon on TNT. If you think pyramid schemes are funny or if you are a big fan of the Shank then you will love this movie. I admit it is low budget and straight to DVD but it is funnier than a lot of big budget blockbuster comedies that I have seen...

This reminded me of Dude, Where's My Car? just a little bit but this is much better that it but not a classic. Danny Masterson (The 70's Show, Dracula 200) and Ronnie Warner (Threshold, Rock Me Baby) play two guys who live in a crappy apartment and get hassled by their landlord, played by Jonathan Banks (RSVP, Dark Blue) because they havent payed their rent in awhile. The 2 of them are fans of a guy on a commercial, played by John C. McGinley (Scrubs, Se7en) and want to be exactly like him. They wind up getting into whacky situations and what not. They go into a rehabilitation group since they smoke pot alot but eventually get kicked out. Darrell Hammond (SNL, Scary Movie 3) plays Masterson's brother (with an annoying voice) who works for a restaurant that is a piece of [...]. Mekhi Phifer (ER, 8 Mile) plays the 2 guys friend Big Daddy (his cell phone ringtone says it all) and he supplies them with the good stuff. They also get into a mixup when they are supposed to make a suitcase drop into a mailbox for Big Daddy but it goes haywire. Terry Crews (Friday After Next, Badassss!) is amusing (forgot his characters name) as a thug who thinks he can rap good. Crews trying to rap and cant is hilarious. Some of it isnt funny which doesnt leave much but it has its moments...nothing special except for Kristen Miler's scene where she forces Warner into bed and makes love to "Jesus". Also starring Ashley Scott (Walking Tall, Into The Blue), Jason Stuart (Gone Postal, Space), Mo Collins (MadTV, Jingle All The Way), David Faustino (Married With Children), Constance Miller (George Lopez, Tortilla Soup), Stephon Fuller (The Terminal, Fire + Ice), Paulo Costanzo (road Trip, Scorched) and Jaleel White (Family Matters).

If you think pyramid schemes are funny or if you are a big fan of the Shank then you will love this movie. I admit it is low budget and straight to DVD but it is funnier than a lot of big budget blockbuster comedies that I have seen. Phiffer does a great job in his role as the big business entrepenuer. The plot is original and there are some really hilarious scenes. If you think about it, there are some parts of the film that really ring true. I grew up only seeing the TV edited version of the Shank and didn't know about the rape scene(Which is an important part of the plot) until much later when I saw the unedited version.

2.0 out of 5 stars Amusing, worth seeing for free, May 8, 2006

We were able to see this DVD for free, which is an appropriate price for a silly movie based on the adventures of two stoners. Their goal is to watch THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and start their own business based on an infomercial. They enter rehab to see the TV, get caught up in some other crime, basically wander around. There are one or two very funny scenes, one that I found extremely disturbing and offensive, and a happy, if implausible, ending.

If you already have pay channels and it's on, or if someone else offers to lend it to you, it's not a total waste of time, but don't spend money to see it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny stoner comedy, June 3, 2011

This is a movie about two stoner roommates who get kicked out of their apartment, just as the Shawshank Redemption marathon will be coming on all weekend. Their attempts to find a location to watch the marathon take them into rehab, while their moneymaking endeavors bring them into complex situations attempting to rip off "Mr Big."

This movie requires the ability to laugh at not only the funny parts of drug use, but also some of the negative aspects of drug abuse, as it does not sugar coat topics as much as some other movies in this genre.

Just got done watching it and...yeah, pretty horrible. There were a few moments that made me slightly chuckle, but that's about it for the laughs department. I had a feeling I shouldn't waste my time by the first 5 minutes, but went through with it anyway. I would infinitely recommend Smiley Face over this any day. This movie is just creepy and pathetic in comparison.
