Pull Toy Digest Needs a Good Push, December 1, 2009
This review is from: Pull Toys, Collector's Digest (Paperback)
I laud the authors' attempt to catalog wooden pull toys, but I found the book extremely inadequate, especially in the section on Holgate pull toys, which I collect. Holgate is one of the big names in wooden pull toys tracing its origins into the early part of the 1930's and having Norman Rockwell's brother as a toy designer. But the "Pull Toys" section on Holgate is woefully inadequate for the following reasons:
1. The listing covers only a small percentage of the vast array of Holgate pull toy products.
2. Some of the toys pictured are shown with missing parts, bogus parts added in, and the like.
3. The prices listed as somewhat representative of the market value are worthless, especially for those items with missing parts.
I am no expert on the other toy brands covered, but I can assure you that the book is worthless if the coverage of non-Holgate toys is as weak.
