5.0 out of 5 stars pull off the shelf!
This was such a great book. Calypso Kelly is one of the few Americans at the posh british boarding school she attends. She has few friends: everyone loves to make fun of her accent. On top of all that, she is one of the few fencers, and she has no experience "pulling", or kissing, boys. Calypso takes things into her own hands, pretending that "gay Jay", her mom's PA,...

This book wasn't all that. It's certaintly not worth your money. But hey, if your interested in fencing than it's should deffinately read it. But other than that, it's only good for a short read to fill up your time. It's not worth buying though.

On top of all that, she is one of the few fencers, and she has no experience "pulling", or kissing, boys. Calypso takes things into her own hands, pretending that "gay Jay", her mom's PA, is her boyfriend in the States. This gives her an in with the most popular girls, and she is getting along quite nicely. She even attracts the attention of Prince Freddie, a royal! When the others discover this, one of the girls goes on the warpath, seeking to destroy Calypso's budding relationship. When she ends up in the tabloids, kissing Prince Freddie, her life gets even more crazy. Will Calypso be able to maintain her new friendships, defeat the evil girl, and win her prince?

5.0 out of 5 stars THE END, July 9, 2005
A Kid's Review
this book was great! though many reviews have said, "its a bit confusing". i say "who says it shouldn't be?" when is the life of a teenager not "a little bit confusing"? it isn't very realistic, but that's what's fun about it. as nice as it is 2 read about realistic events, it's always fun 2 read something funny and "out there" once and a while.

after I read AND loved it, i recommended it 2 several of my friends. they all loved too. but in the end, it had us saying,
"WE WANT MORE!! THAT CAN'T BE THE END!!" and it isn't. it's just the beginning of a series that will b great. the other books are called, 'STEALING PRINCES' and 'DUELING PRINCES'. so b sure to check those out as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calypso Kelly, December 28, 2004
By
This book is a very good read, a read one might call a beach read. It is centered around Calypso Kelly, the average teenage girl who desires to fit in and believes a good boyfriend will help her. It is light reading and perfect for anyone who is a pre-teen or teenager. It is filled with the normal teenage scenarios, royalty and of course, very strange names. Calypso? Arabella? Poppy? I believe this book is very good and I could not put it down! It was definitely one of my top 20 books I've ever read!

1.0 out of 5 stars Please do not buy this book for you child, November 24, 2009
I have not read this book but have heard the awful excerpts from a good friend of mine. The book is very vulgar. The sexual connotations and language in this book is not for any child...not even teenagers. I would not let my young adult read this book. Not even sure if I, as a mature, older, married adult, would want to read such filth. The author makes it look and sound as if it is going to be a wonderful book, with its cute synopsis and cover art...but they are very deceiving. Please make a decision for the moral health of your young child, teen or young adult..DO NOT LET THIS BOOK INTO YOUR HOME!!! Kids have enough to deal with these days without having it seep into their lives with books. There are many other good, wholesome books to chose from that will help our children grow...not fill their heads with sex.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wickedly Funny, December 12, 2008
Calypso's social status in Saint Augestine's girl's boarding school goes through a drastic change when the "It Girl" Georgina becomes her roommate. It is bad enough that Calypso is already deemed one of the school's freaks, but when she gets harassed by the school's nasty girl Honey, things start to go really bonkers for her. On top of that she starts feeling something for the prince. Yes, literally a prince.

I enjoyed reading this book, though I thought the drinking, smoking part of it wasn't really necessary especially that the books' targeted for tweens, nevertheless, a very good story and very funny at times. I was amused by the brit posh/slang that this book entailed. I didn't expect to like it, but now I'm seriosuly considering reading the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars this book has great pulling power, August 13, 2006
By
Calypso Kelly is the American freak at the prestigious St. Augustine's Boarding School for Ladies in England. Everything from her accent to her her lack of pedigree is mocked, but she's determined that this year will be different, and she'll finally fit in with the popular girls. She starts by pretending that her mother's hot (but gay) PA is her boyfriend, and, to her surprise, it actually works. It gains her respect, and, in the long run, she gains friends. But one girl, Honey O' Hare, is still determined to bring Calypso down, so when she's caught in the tabloids kissing Prince Freddie, England's most eligible bachelor, a lot more than her dress is hanging by a safety pin. Calypso must do all she can to save her reputation. Anyone who has ever felt like a misfit or had someone out to undermine them will surely relate to Calypso. This book is funny, fast-paced, and bound to have you reaching eagerly for the next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Addition to the Teen Fiction Genre, November 9, 2004
By
Erika Sorocco (Southern California, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Calypso Kelly has always wanted to fit in with the popular, posh girls at her British Boarding School, but her non-Brit ways, and the fact that she's an American student from LA with not-so-much money, keeps her from doing just that. But this term, Calypso plans on changing that by pretending that her Mother's gay personal assistant, Jay, is her boyfriend. What she didn't expect is that the small white lie would work, and that she would be turned into Miss Popularity overnight. But then everything goes awry, for her photo is snapped, and she appears on the cover of every British tabloid kissing Prince Freddie, England's most eligible royal. Now Calypso is forced to try to change this total calamity into a winning situation, in order to save her reputation, and possible relationship with Freddie.

Teen fiction has been one of my favorite genres for years, and I must admit that Tyne O'Connell's addition to the genre with PULLING PRINCES, is definitely a worthy contribution. PULLING PRINCES is on the level of Meg Cabot's THE PRINCESS DIARIES, and Kate Brian's THE PRINCESS AND THE PAUPER. Her effort is filled with hilarious situations between the main protagonist - Calypso - and the many snotty, rich, and at times, downright vicious girls she attends school with. Female readers will greatly enjoy this new addition to the teen fiction genre, and will find themselves craving for more Calypso when the book is done.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Developed, February 7, 2005
By
Rachel (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This could've been a great book if it had been developed. I became extremely confused because the writer kept jumping from one event to another. The main character, Calypso, is a teenage leper when suddenly she becomes extremely popular and finds out that it just so happens that the head popular girl is actually being mistreated by a fellow popular girl who is the real horrible person who gives the whole group a bad name. Without enough transitional filler to make it understandable, it was just a jumble of nonsense. Another disappointing part is that she falls in the love with, of course, a prince who we never know for sure if he is a jerk or a nice guy. There's too much guesswork that shouldn't be in there.

Ultimately, after I finished reading it, I ran around the house screaming "I want my life back!"
