Pulmonary Pathology: A Volume in Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology Series, 1e

I would recommend this book to residents and pathologists alike. I found this to be a good general reference text.

Weak points:
*The chapter on interstitial lung disease still needs a bit of work in my opinion, but this is a difficult topic to communicate to others and seems to be a general weakness in all pathology books dealing with this particular topic. The pattern based approach seem to be en vogue right now, but suffers in my opinion once you have to add several sub-patterns and sub-sub patterns under each main pattern heading. The idea is to simplify things (especially when dealing with novices or those not quite comfortable with a topic), not to get lost in fractal-land.

*Books in this series (Foundations in Diagnostic pathology) tend to vary greatly in the quality of the editing. Editorial errors in this book tend to be minor type-o's only.

Strong points:
*Images - the figure legends are useful and contribute to the learning experience, one does not need to refer back to the text to be able to find out what the image is meant to demonstrate, one of my pet hates. The micrographs are of good quality and on the larger size, which I prefer. Color, contrast and technical skill is consistent througout for the most part.
*Fact sheets: those familliar with books in this series will know what I mean. The authors go to great lenghts to ensure pertinent clinical and pathology-related facts are highlighted at the end of each topic by summarizing it in a colored box, fantastically helpful for quick reference or studying.
