My background is as a costume designer who is fascinated by the incredible hand work that went into the styling and construction of period clothes. I have seen the "Pulp Fashion" exhibit in San Francisco and marvel at how well these garments made from paper reflect the look you would see if you were looking at the actual period garment in a museum.

I have read the publishers description of this book and find it quite accurate so I wont repeat what you can read there. I highly recommend this book. The unique art of de Borchgrave deserves to be recorded as it is in this volume.

The book is an excellent overview of Isabelle De Borchgrave's incredible artistry. It is very complete and highlights the process, the designs and the materials. It showcases the talent and innovation of the artist and her on going work. The book provides descriptive support to each of her show displays in a very complete manner. An excellent reference book for artists seeking to expand their repertoire of skills into new arenas, highlighting the extensive possibilities within paper design. The ideation and application processes are wonderfully detailed.

Pulp Fashion...is not pulp fiction. A wonderful and creative compendium of fashion at its finest all from paper. Historically mirrored gowns and dresses manipulated in the medium and painted to match the reflection.

I saw a small display of Isabelle de Borchgrave's paper artwork at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London back in 2000, where she made miniature replicas of antique gowns, out of paper, and the original and replica gowns were displayed together. It was amazing back then, and her work continues to be some of the most unique and beautiful modern art I've ever seen. De Borchgrave uses different types of paper -- painting, cutting, crumpling, and manipulating it -- to make it look like fabric, including embroidery and lace, and then constructs replicas and re-creations of clothing from famous portraits and originals in museum collections around the world. This book is a wonderful record of her work, and a great way of seeing it if you can't get to a museum or gallery where it's on display.
