This review is from: Pulsar Men's PF3782 Tech Gear Flight Computer Alarm Chronograph Watch (Watch)
After 5+ years since I bought my last watch (a Citizen Calibre 9000), I've just added this to my collection. I was wavering between this one and the other main all gold Seiko premiere watch the SNA414p which costs around $260 and up online. The PF3782 is much more sporty and was more ideal for my upcoming summer Caribbean cruise vacation so I went with it and picked it up for a steal at a little over $130 online. The box says that this costs $325 Retail. PROS: -Big face and shoulder but very comfortable. Fits as snug as my Nighthawk. -Design is very modern but actually come off more classic than fad when you wear it. -Gold tone is NOT cheap looking or overly gaudy off the wrist but sporty and rich with the red accents and carbon fibre trim giving a nice contrast against the gold. I been wearing it almost daily for a year and a half and the Gold did not fade or wear off. In fact it still looks new as the day I bought it. It is a very durable watch that took a beating and still looked new after a year and a half. -Nice clear to read dial and easy to operate. Slide rule, chronograph and alarm are few of the many functions. -Easy to set and easy to wear with just about anything. -Stop Watch function is pretty awesome and very high tech compared to other similar watches. CONS: -Not solar powered and the manual states the battery has a 3 year or less life span. Not a fan of 3 year batteries since I've been wearing solar powered Citizen watches for the last 10 years. -Crown is sort of awkward and hard to reach and turn under the protective cover. - Glow in the dark (phosphor) back light isn't nearly as bright or effective as my Citizen Nighthawk and Calibre watches. I've only been wearing it for about 12 hours under sunlight so I'm not sure if it needs more time to energize. -Watch band is designed to fit slightly loose. This maybe a bother for those who are very active (like me) and don't like the distraction of a loose watch. Sports like swimming, where a tight fitting watch band is ideal, may require serious swimmers to leave this one in the locker. BOTTOM LINE: I purchased this watch not sure whether I would like it (I never wear gold jewelry or full gold watches) and bought it under the pretense that if anything about it looked or felt wrong at all on me then this was getting returned and another watch most likely the SNA414p would replace it. After a day with this watch regardless of the minor cons I'm very happy with this watch and I would buy it again. The SNA414p will have to wait before I pick that up. In fact this PF3782 has made me interested in buying other full gold watches something that is totally out of my conservative low key character. 12/2011 UPDATE: After a year and a half I still love this watch. My original concerns was the brilliant gold color would fade or wear off but this did not happen and I wear my PF3782 at least 4 to 5 times a week. It still looked brand new after a year and a half of abuse. My original watch was stolen at the gym and I just replaced my watch this week with a new one. My replacement seems to be a newer edition with the Hardlex Crystal and not the Mineral Crystal. Hardlex is scratch and shatter resistant whiles Mineral Crystal is not. I wasn't sure but I checked my original box that came with my first watch and the tags clearly say Mineral Crystal. The tags on my new watch says Hardlex Crystal. It was a nice surprise to get the upgrade with my new watch. The Hardlex is not only more durable but it looks more polished and clearer under light. Also the Hardlex PF3782 watch feels lighter than my original Mineral PF3782 watch. I have posted pictures. So anyone considering buying this watch be sure to see which version is being sold.

This review is from: Pulsar Men's PF3782 Tech Gear Flight Computer Alarm Chronograph Watch (Watch)
The Pulsar PF3782 is a hefty and rugged timepiece that exemplifies quality and precision. No doubt this is a large and hefty man's watch that proclaims its presence on your wrist. This timepiece is bold and has beautiful black carbon fiber and gold detailing. The masculine all gold stainless steel band is substantial. The craftmanship is apparent and this timepiece has all the characteristics of a watch hundreds of dollars more expensive. You should know Pulsar is made by Seiko and you are getting quality at an affordable price. This is a top of the line Pulsar and this Tech Gear line was introduced last year. This is an alarm chronograph with flight computer functionality. The bezel is a slide rule that works in conjunction with the metrics imbedded on the dial. I must admit I don't know how to use it and be glad I am not a pilot. The numbering is so small that I can't imagine anyone could use the watch "computer" for real life calculations. But it does look sharp. Like other Pulsar/Seiko alarm chronographs, the alarm is not very loud. The dials are easily visible and the red arrow second subdial is a nice touch. The calendar magnifier is under the crystal as opposed to protruding above as I have seen on some watches. This is a nice feature as seen on more costly timepieces. There is a rather large crown protector that I chose to remove. It was difficult to adjust time settings using the crown as the other reviewer Olaf stated. It is awkward and clumsy to manipulate behind the crown protector. I also didn't want it to rub into my wrist. It made the watch look like an orthopedic brace on your wrist :). The crown does not screw down which would have been nice a feature. The packaging is somewhat lacking as delivered in a throwaway Pulsar cardboard box and not a nice watch case like Invicta or Wenger watches. For your information, there is a comparable silver version of this watch (PF3789) that is @$35.00 cheaper. The Pulsar PF3782 is highly recommended and a great addition to anyone's watch collection. ******************************* Important Notice: The black/silver version of this watch PF3779 is on sale for $46.00 + shipping. This is an incredible bargain.

I own other Pulsars, Casios, Bulovas, a Daniel Steiger, and others, but this watch is my favorite and the most beautiful. It is solid, large without being too heavy, looks expensive, and is a real eye catcher. The date is easy to read and the buttons and stem functions are easy to use. I love it and just ordered the stainless model (PF3779) to matched it! But it does have a couple of serious Cons. The second hand is a small, red triangle and very hard to see. I find that to be a stupid design in an otherwise perfectly designed timepiece. Secondly, one of the features that convinced me buy this watch was that it has an alarm. That's rare for a strictly analog watch. The problem is that I can not HEAR the alarm unless I hold it to my ear in a quiet room!! That is a definite design problem. |
