Men's Pulsar Digital World Time Chronograph Watch

Pulsar by Seiko Holdings Corporation.

A spectacular breakthrough

Pulsar was born in an age of optimism. In the 1970's, everything seemed achievable through the rapidly growing technological expertise at the world's fingertips. Space flight had been converted from dream to reality, computer science was developing at break neck speed and electronics seemed to deliver new advances every day. Pulsar symbolized the age. It was new and it was bold, it was surprising and it was different. Pulsar, the world's first electronic digital watch, created a sensation when it was unveiled in New York in 1972 and it changed the world's perception of time.

A tradition of difference

When the brand was taken into the Seiko Corporation in 1980, it brought further surprises to the world; the first calculator watch in 1980 and the first all-quartz watch line in 1981 were among its industry-leading achievements. And throughout the '80's and 90's Pulsar continued to bring to market new products that were born to be different. The Avant-garde collection in 1980's set a new style in women's watches and Spoon in 1990's were unique designs which further cemented Pulsar's image as an ingenious and surprising watchmaker.

Towards a modernist future

Today, Pulsar remains loyal to its heritage. It was born to be different and it will remain so. Each Pulsar watch has the hint of the futurism and modernity that have always been its hallmark. Pulsar is a brand for the individual who appreciates real value and seeks quality with individuality and flair.

I've only had this watch for less than a week now but I'm very happy with the purchase. The watch seems to have been built well and it looks pretty sharp. The manual could have been written alot better but once you start playing with the buttons it's pretty easy to go through your options. The light works very well and your choices are between amber or blue for the light. One of the feaures I really like is that it's easy to change between time zones. After the time is set and you have choosen your home city (time zone) you can go out into the menu (by hitting the mode button) and select the World Time (in menu scroll by pressing one of the right buttons until World Time is displayed in the middle of the screen and press the mode button again to select the option) then select the city (time zone) you want, then go back to the Time mode. When you press and hold the lower right button the time will toggle between your time zone and the one selected on the World Time mode. Really the only things I would change about this watch is that I would prefer the month to be before the day of the week and I would also like the am and pm to be bigger since all the other numbers are big. I hope this review helps.

I had for years a pulsar digital watch that I liked so much that when it "cratered," I was quite sad. I couldn't find an identical replacement. Fortunately, I happened to see the same watch in a store window during a trip to Singapore, snapped it up and had another nine years of satisfaction. When it finally bit the dust, I discovered that Pulsar no longer made the same model but ordered another that had the alarm, count-down alarm, stop watch, and second chronograph to use when traveling in other time zones. In fact this one had five alarm settings and could be easily set up for time zones by selecting a major city in that zone. However it was quite a shock when it arrived; it is much larger than the other watch, something that could not be ascertained by the picture of the watch with nothing else around it for comparison.

I am wearing and getting used to its bulk, although the other was less ostentatious.

Setting and using all the functions has taken time to assimilate, even with the instruction book. However, it does work well. One good thing about the size, and the font for the numbers, is that I don't have to find my glasses to read the time! The band had to be adjusted by a jeweler, at a reasonable price, and is very attractive.

All in all, in spite of the size surprise, I'm satisfied with the product.

I'm not particularly a fan of digital watches, but I needed one for a job that required a lot of punctuality. This watch has fit the roll very nicely. It has 5 alarms in it that was just what I needed. I could have used 6, but can't find any watches with 6 alarms in it.

What made it even better was the ease of use and very readable display. I was a bit worried that the low resolution and a lot of information on the screen would be cluttered and hard to read. It is not. It's quite easy to read and find information. The resolution is enough that you don't notice any problem.

Some have complained that this is a very (overly) large watch. It is a little big, but that helps the readability of the screen. I measure the outside of the bezel from 3 to 9 at 37mm. That is not large by any standard in today's watch market. There are plenty of watches that dwarf this one. I have a medium wrist size and think it looks sized very nicely on my wrist.

It takes a little bit of learning to understand the interface and the way things work. Luckily the way things work is very consistent, so once you learn you don't have to use the manual. (Well, if you change anything every now and then.) I find the screen much clearer and easier to read than a Casio G-Shock - which was the alternative when I was buying.

I have used the Settings, Schedule, Alarm, Timer, and Time functions a lot and love them. I have not used World or Chrono. I like the amber lighting better than the blue, but that's probably a personal issue.

I've noticed that it gains about 5-10 seconds a month, but that is pretty good for a lot of quartz watches. I admit I've become spoiled by atomic watches. This accuracy is very workable. When it annoys me I set it to an atomic watch.

A computer is what my son calls it, he has been on a roll buying some high priced watches and there huge. This watch is just the right style and size. I wanted a watch that I can see the date of the weak easy and a watch that is easy to keep track of my time when Im on breaks at work and this watch makes it easy. When someone looks at it you should see the looks on their faces - you see the look of what the heck is it, so this makes it a good coversational piece. Again the size and look is great and it's a little lighter in weight than a lot of the other watche its size and this is nice because some of the watches weigh so much that they fall down on your arm and dig into the back of your hand.

Great looking watch with large readouts. Tons of functions that with a little practice become easy to use. Best stopwatch I ever had on a wristwatch. One again the readouts are big and thats exactly what I needed. Keeps perfect time also.
