I use this scope on my Sig 516 AR-style rifle mainly for target shooting and hog hunting. It works best at dusk or at night with moonlight (without IR illuminator switched on) and I'll have a good view 300-400 yards out. When it's pitch black, I switch on the IR illuminator and turn up the display brightness and I can see very clearly out to 200 yards easily. During the day, I'll turn the brightness down as low as it goes and I still get a clear picture. I haven't come across a situation yet in which I couldn't make adjustments on the system to see. Very versatile system. You do have adjust the focus manually in every situation but it isn't too difficult (doesn't allow for quick usage. You will need to adjust this before making your shot)

Pros:
-Mounts and unmounts easily on standard 1913 rails with thumbscrews (can be tightened with screwdriver)
-Since it is a digital display you are looking at in the viewfinder, you can adjust the retical type, what is displayed onscreen and you can invert the HUD between black and white (not the picture)
-You can download or create your own reticals and upload them to the scope via mini-USB
-Video output (to recording device such as DVR)(RCA interface)(VGA quality)(I haven't tried it out yet so I can't comment on the quality)(no audio)
-Built in IR illuminator
-There is a side rail where you can add an additional IR illuminator/laser
-Can be used in daylight (turn brightness down)
-Making elevation and windage adjustments is very easy
-Selector is covered with attached screw cap to keep you from accidentally making adjustments
-Attached front lens cover
-Uses 4 x AA batteries (use rechargables since you'll go through them quick)
-Comes with high-quality carrying bag

Cons:
-Heavy (if you're not carrying your rifle around very far or just uncasing where you're shooting at, then it's not an issue)
-You have to make visual adjustments yourself (brightness and focus). Not ideal for shooting on the go.
-Cannot use the USB for video output (only the RCA interface)
-No color (just greyscale)
-Battery life is short with IR on (roughly 45-60 minutes)(carry extras)

Note:
-It's pretty awesome looking up at a clear night sky. You can literally see millions of stars. I wouldn't compare it to a high-powered telescope, but it is pretty cool.

Overall, it's worth its relatively high price tag. If you look a gen-2/3 nightvision scope + a decent daytime scope, it's definitely cheaper do go with the N550. Since it is digital, it has many features that traditional optics do not offer. It's fun to use and looks awesome. I do not think it would be useful in tactical situations because of its weight and having to constantly adjust it. Definitely a cool buy for an enthusiast! (if you have the money)

I bought the Digisight N550 January 2011. I had one issue with the batteries several months later. Even though an Amazon competitor refused to help me and gave bad advice about my product issues the manufacturer was great and did everything needed to ensure customer satisfaction. The scope works great and is one of the few, if not only, scope you can use for day and night shooting under $1500. Adjustments are easy and can switch the reticule from white to black, MOA to crosshairs. This is a light weight scope and as versatile as it gets. Thank you to the Sellmark Corporation team.

I'm very pleased with this scope. Have taken a Deer during the day and over a dozen pigs at night through it. It is a bit soft in the day, but is crisp at night. Sighting it in was a breeze, simply put a three shot group on paper, then move your cursor to the center of the group and lock the new position in. I have never shot it past 70 yards, and most owners agree that it is most effective at less than 100 yards. For me, the key selling point is that it is day and night capable.

The only detracting features are that is that it is a bit uncomfortably placed so it feels odd when shooting on my 6.8mm AR Platform (that could be a personal issue though as I prefer a low sight) and it eats batteries if you use the integrated IR light at night, so cary extras. I only use 2300mAh or better and will get about 10-30 minutes at night when using the IR illuminator, daytime use is not an issue.

The image quality is very good for the price range and I like the gray tones better then the green. The scope is a trifle bulky but fits well on top of my AR. Not too bad a washout when a brighter light is nearby and a good view out to 100 yards. I will be experimenting with darker areas and longer views when I can get out of town but so far so good.

Definately recommend the device.

Comparing to GEN3 and up to 150 yards it the best piece you can get for the money. Since it is black and white you have to compare it with the GEN WPT. One shot one button easy calibration. I bought atn ps22 cgt to use it with my leupold and i stopped using it after I tried the pulsar. One negative point it is a battery eater, But for the price and the image quality it deserves the 5 stars.

Just returned from Texas hog hunt using this unit. Works really well but with caveats: it's heavy, I wouldn't recommend it as a walking around sight. If you want a clearer picture you have to focus it (especially if you plan on video tapping your hunts like I did), so again, not suitable for quick shots, better suited for hunting over a feeder or known fixed distance that you can pre-focus on. Can be used at different ranges but your viewfinder will be blurry which is ok. Built in IR light works ok at short distances depending on amount of ambient light (I would even say 50 yards or less). I would HIGHLY recommend the Streamlight 88704 Super TAC IR Long Range Infrared Active Illuminator. That light really worked for me on dark night at 100 yards (my longest shot of this trip). I also purchased a small DVR to video tape the hunts. Recommend that you practice your set up if you decide to go down this route. It lights up really bright so I turned it on hit REC button then put it in my coat pocket until I was done shooting. It was fun to hook it up to laptop and show my hunting buddies the action... after two days everybody wanted to watch the post hunt "show". All in all I am happy with my decision to purchase this sight over a GEN II / III.

This scope was a decent deal when the price was around $1200 but, typical Amazon, the price just keeps going up and up as long as the reviews are good. The scope I had lasted around a year and then died. It would have cost me almost as much as a new one to have it fixed. Customer service was like pulling teeth to deal with too.

Got mine as gift a month ago. used twice then screen went white!! tried different batteries but no difference. Called Sellmark and tech was great explained a few had this problem. Just send in and they will replace it. Found the pulsar people to be great with their product and stand behind it. Looking forward to getting it back! Heard of a few N550 had this problem but Pulsar is resolving it quickly at no cost. Will post update as soon as I get it back. Blows my buddy's Gen 1 and Gen 2 away!

Thermal prices are coming down and should be near this same price point in the next year or so. This technology is old and way overpriced for what it is. I am surprised others have not hit the market yet at half the price as it is nothing more than a glorified digital camera.

Worth it at the $500ish price point, not $1300.

Returned it due to not performing as described. However after doing a little more research I found the sight to be good but needed more IR. The illuminator built in is way under powered. I bought the Surefire flash light IR illuminater and now I can easily see 150yds clearly on a dark night. Oh, I returned this one and after my research bought the one with the extra illuminater. The extra one is still under powered unless you have good ambient light. I had to give it 5 stars because in the end it worked out and it's miles ahead of the gen 1 and gen 2 units.
