5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
After seeing this play, I knew I had to get the soundtrack. Most notable on the CD are the accapella song "Fisherman's Prayer" and the melancholy tune "Mamaw", as well as "The Night Dolly Parton Was Almost Mine" A Must have for any fan of soundtracks, OR country music!

1.0 out of 5 stars Aweful!!
This soundtrack is simply horrible. If you are a fan of Country music, you'll be disappointed. If you are a fan of broadway musicals, you'll be disappointed. If you are a fan of live plays with good scripts, you'll be disappointed.

It's classic country mixed with showtunes. To top it all off, it's all done with the quality of a mediocre bar band. The vocals...

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb harmony and humor!, December 13, 2001

I first saw the show at the local theatre about four years ago. It's only now that I came upon the soundtrack, and it's been great reliving the memories of seeing the show. The songs on this album are terrific- they range from ballad-type songs ("Sisters", "Mamaw", "The Best Man") to toe-tapping hand-clapping cast numbers ("No Holds Barred"- which I love to pieces -"Highway 57", "Vacation") to hilarious solo numbers ("Farmer Tan"). But possibly my favorite song on the whole album is "Fisherman's Prayer". The gentlemen of the cast combine their superb voice talents in this hilarious acappella telling the story of a regular fishing day that turns rainy. It cracks me up every time.
In short, this CD is one not to pass up. It's worth every cent, and will keep you singing the songs for a long, long time. Five stars and then some!

I recently played Jackson in this show and had the best time of my life. The energy never stops. The music is fun and upbeat. If you love kickin' country tunes and delicious harmony, you'll love Pump Boys and Dinettes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most enjoyable evening of music ever!, June 26, 1999
This review is from: Pump Boys And Dinettes (1982 Original Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
I have seen this show twice and the music is great! I especially love "the night dolly parton was almost mine!" That steals the show every night! The audience or listener cannot help clapping and singing along with this super music!

Wish this group had made more than this one hillbilly musical. Really fun show (live) and fun to find this audio version. Some fine instrument playing and I knew the double cup gals were dancing when I listened to the pot and pan number, having seen the show previously.

1.0 out of 5 stars Aweful!!, March 22, 2011

This soundtrack is simply horrible. If you are a fan of Country music, you'll be disappointed. If you are a fan of broadway musicals, you'll be disappointed. If you are a fan of live plays with good scripts, you'll be disappointed.

It's classic country mixed with showtunes. To top it all off, it's all done with the quality of a mediocre bar band. The vocals are boring and mediocre. The ladies sound better than the men. The men simply sound boring--even lousy--in my opinion. There isn't really any impressive musicianship. The basslines are boring and stereotypical. The drumming is solid enough but nothing interesting. The guitar playing is generic. The piano playing is fair but not attention grabbing.

I bought this soundtrack to learn the songs because I was going to play (bass) in the show. Even though I accepted the gig to play the show, I still think the entire soundtrack stinks. Unless you need to hear this to learn to perform the songs, save yoru money. For simple listening enjoyment, this recording is just not worth any attention. I honestly think this show came to be because the band was probably going nowhere and was looking for a way to get their faces out there. It might have worked back in 1982, but today the music just isn't up to the level it could be.

I'm with a theater group that is considering putting on this show. We're waiting on the perusal script and in the meantime, ordered the soundtrack. It's a good show so we'll see what the rest of the package is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the same as the LP, January 19, 2010
I love this show and have loved it since I saw this cast do it on Broadway. But buyers of the CD should be aware that different tracks were used on 3 of the cuts. They have a very different "sound" from the rest of the CD.

I was recently in a production of Pump Boys and Dinettes. I played the role of Jim. The whole cast was constantly laughing, this show is AWESOME. I would recommend it anyone.
