5.0 out of 5 stars Rolling on the floor laughing
My children, ages 8 and 6, love reading this book together. They usually end up rolling on the floor laughing about the silly words the boy and his elephant friend make up. I highly recommend this book for entertaining family reading.

2.0 out of 5 stars Did not like the "yelling" in the book
I bought this book for my son when he was around 5 or 6 years old. While I liked the silly rhyming and concur that it is a fun read, I did not like the anger that Benjamin displayed in the book. Benjamin's responses to Elephant's attempts to make him forget his grocery list grew angrier until he was essentially yelling at Elephant. The anger was depicted by the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book to read aloud, May 6, 2003

I am so glad this book is back in print. I read it over and over to both my kids when they were small and have wanted to give it to every parent of a word-playful child since then. The pictures are great, too, enhancing the story without being too distracting and busy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Did not like the "yelling" in the book, October 3, 2011
This review is from: Pumpernickel Tickle & Mean Green Cheese (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my son when he was around 5 or 6 years old. While I liked the silly rhyming and concur that it is a fun read, I did not like the anger that Benjamin displayed in the book. Benjamin's responses to Elephant's attempts to make him forget his grocery list grew angrier until he was essentially yelling at Elephant. The anger was depicted by the increasingly large font size and the illustrations.

I ended up using the book as a springboard to discuss what would have been an appropriate way for Benjamin to react, and an appropriate way to treat his friend. We also brainstormed things Benjamin could have done in order to ensure he remembered the items on his list.

But after a few reads, I gave the book to Goodwill. Who knew a used copy would be priced at close to $100?!

4.0 out of 5 stars loved this book as a kid, glad to see it again, May 16, 2011
This review is from: Pumpernickel Tickle & Mean Green Cheese (Hardcover)
There are some books from your childhood that you never forget. My mother bought this book for me as a child since she and Nancy Patz were both from Baltimore and shared several acquaintances, however, my sister and I loved it because it was so very, very silly. I couldn't find this book for years and I'm thrilled that I may soon be able to share it with my own children.

This is a fun book for preschool children and their parents, or grandparents, to share!

Full of the silly things children love and remember for years.

I highly recommend it!
