Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pumping Up!: Super Shaping the Feminine Physique (Paperback)
I bought this book years ago when it first came out in the 1980s. I was still but a kid in her teens. Back then I bought it because everyone told me I could pass as Rachel's little sister. Though I was into working out back in the day, I was mostly into aerobics and "girly" weights. The notion was that women would get big and bulky if we pumped iron. Well, here I am 25 years later. Once I learned that Rachel was the mother of female bodybuilding, and I finally learned that weight lifting would not make me masculine as had been predicted in the past, I bought this book once again. Rachel has some great workouts... TOUGH workouts... in this book. These workouts are what BIG money buys with professional trainers today, so it is well worth the few dollars spent here on Amazon. The only thing I don't agree on is the nutrition advice given by Rachel. Of course, science has shown how we can improve our bodies and health with foods in greater ways since 25 years ago. The nutrition aspect of the book is not bad... just a bit different from what is recommended for today. I only know this because I'm a professionally certified fitness nutrition and personal training coach for women. I highly recommend this book to any woman who is serious about their workouts.
