4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Kit for Careful Carvers
This set has a good amount of patterns ranging from easy to difficult. None are wicked scary, but range from friendly to eerie. The pirate ship was a crowd pleaser. The tools are very effective, but not teenage boy durable, if you know what I mean. The blades will bend and break if not used calmly. The scoop is great. The tool that surprised me the most was the pattern...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute patterns, but get ready to work!
This kit works fine, but it's a lot of work to come up with a good pumpkin. You have to saw away with a tiny knife that doesn't have a very ergonomic handle. In my 20s I probably would not have noticed or cared, but detail work is a bit harder for me now that I'm in the 40s and have a little tendonitis! Anyway, you have to have a lot of patience for most of the designs,...

The tool that surprised me the most was the pattern tracing wheel. It looks so small and worthless, but was great on the angles and punched enough of a hole to transfer the pattern. Wouldn't spend much money on it. Found it at the grocery store for $5 before halloween and for $0.99 after, hint hint.

Anyway, you have to have a lot of patience for most of the designs, but the book does include a few simpler faces if you are really afraid to freehand it but want something easy. Some of the tiny knives can be a little frustrating to work with too, and we found ourselves hauling out a bigger kitchen knife for some of the less precise cutting. All in all, if you must have fancy Jack-o-lantern, this kit is fine. But if you would be happy with a simple carving, you can do just as well with a kitchen knife and a little imagination.

4.0 out of 5 stars pumpkin carving, November 28, 2011

this product works but it is too cheap to be really a hit in pumpkin carving. I would have paid more for a more solid heavier duty set. The cutting tools bend so easily but they did work. I would recommend this product but you must be patient and careful of bending the blades.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great set!, November 17, 2011

My husband did all the carving for the kids (they picked out the design), and he liked the patterns and tools. The only complaint I have is that some of the patterns were printed on the back of other patterns...meaning you could not use one of the designs if you chose the other. There were only a couple like that towards the back of the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Saws in this kit are cheap and worthless and will break during carving, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Pumpkin Carving Kit - Patterns May Vary!
This kit is worthless. Seriously. If you want to really carve pumpkins with the patterns enclosed in this kit, go to Home Depot and get some REAL hand saws and carving tools. They will last may years, whereast the cheap, plastic tools enclosed with this kit will break in mid-design. The blades of the two saws will bend backwards as you carve and soon, as you're halfway through carving out your design, the saw will break. You better have a small, flexible boning knife or paring knife to finish the job. The scraper is about the only think I can say really works with this kit, since it takes off the strings inside the walls of the pumpking quickly and easily, unlike a metal spoon. However, the other tools are a waste of time and money. Again, if you really want to do intricate designs, get a dremel tool, a wood carving kit and some small, handheld saws from the the hardware store. That option may be pricer, but your tools won't break in the middle of the job. :-P
