From School Library Journal
PreSchool-"October is here. It's time to pick a pumpkin!" Minor illustrates this simple text with lush, rich paintings that portray resplendent autumn scenes. Jack-o'-lanterns, small and large, are found on a bench, floating in the air in the form of a hot-air balloon, and on hayrides. Some look like cowboys, snowmen, or a witch; all wish readers a "Happy Halloween." Very large print on creamy ivory pages on the left side stands in contrast to the realistic scenes on the right. This visually stunning book is sure to be a favorite autumn read-aloud.

Ages 2-6. Here's a marvelous example of the way seasonal books can enhance the excitement surrounding a holiday. Minor carves out a splendid celebration of all things pumpkin (especially lots of varied jack-o'-lanterns) with full-page watercolors that fairly glow. The text, on facing pages, moves the reader through the pumpkin patch to pumpkin carvings in short, excited announcements, starting with "October is here! It's time to pick a pumpkin!" Young readers will enjoy the tour of places where pumpkin heads appear: on wagons, scowling on scarecrows, peeking from windows, greeting trick-or-treaters. The chief delights of this book, for all readers, are the jolly, jokey carvings, the nice bits of architectural detail, and Minor's blazing autumn skies and fields.
