5.0 out of 5 stars A hit with my 4 yo
So often the poetry in children's books is strained and forced, but not this one. The language is very poetic and fun to read. It's the type of book that could really teach a child to love language. It is also a big hit with my 4 year old who loves the roly-poly pumpkins -- when she saw pumpkins at the supermarket for Halloween she said "behold, a golden avalanche",...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre - Find another pumpkin book
I have 2 reasons why not to buy this book:
(1) It is not funny - My kids who are five and under do not request this book. I have to make this listen to me read it in October.

(2) It is sexist- Six pages into it, the farmers fat wife is shown pointing her finger and snarling and dominating and nagging the faultless skinny husband/farmer. The poor...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre - Find another pumpkin book, August 19, 2011
This review is from: Pumpkin Hill (Paperback)
I have 2 reasons why not to buy this book:
(1) It is not funny - My kids who are five and under do not request this book. I have to make this listen to me read it in October.

(2) It is sexist- Six pages into it, the farmers fat wife is shown pointing her finger and snarling and dominating and nagging the faultless skinny husband/farmer. The poor farmer looks like I am soo helpless. I will not read this book to my sons, wrong impression of a wife.

The only good thing about the book are the two recipes on the last page!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pumpkin Fun For Everyone!, November 7, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pumpkin Hill (School & Library Binding)
I am a Home Schooling mother, that wanted something different for our mini lesson on pumpkins and I found it with "Pumpkin Hill".
The illustrations were wonderful, the story was fun and educational, with a cool project in the back of the book that was perfect for our lesson plan.
We read it at our annual pumpkin carving party and adults found it just as delightful as the children.
