The only good thing about this product were the paaterns and instructions. All the instruments half through carving the pumpkin broke. I suggest making stronger saws..or even bigger ones.

2.0 out of 5 stars The patterns are cute but the tools are terrible!, November 2, 2011
This review is from: Pumpkin Masters Pumpkin Carving Kit with 12 Patterns & Tools
This year was the first year I decided to carve a pumpkin for Halloween so I picked this set up at a local craft store. It looked really useful and included what looks like a complete array of tools needed to do the job.

After using it, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the 2 saws and the pounce wheel. Both saws bent and completely broke off halfway through carving the pumpkin! I didn't expect to be able to use them year after year, but I did expect to at least be able to get through the whole carving! I ended up having to use a scissor and regular knife to finish the design.

The pounce wheel is a great design and idea but the wheel is made of plastic and you have to press very hard to get indentations on the pumpkin. I used the scooper which I suppose worked okay but proved pretty useless in getting all of the insides out as I had to resort to using my hand to pull out the bulk of the meat.

The one good thing about the set was the included patterns which are pretty cute. Overall, I was disappointed with this set and would have liked to pay a few extra dollars for better quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars declining tool quality, October 30, 2011

Neither of us made it through a third of our pumpkins before the tools bent. Five minutes later the blades pulled from the base. So sad, we used to love this product. Reduced quality is hard to handle, but charge more and at least make it so we can complete one pumpkin each.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very flimsy and a nightmare to use!, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Pumpkin Masters Pumpkin Carving Kit with 12 Patterns & Tools
Did not like the kit at all. Agreed, there are some creative patterns, but the tools are extremely flimsy. While, there is a need for some fine carving at specific places, it should be easier to scoop out big chunks. I guess one can use a steak knife! The blades bent a bit, and was quite annoying to use. Though this seems to be the most popular one available in the stores!

There has to be a better option.

OK, they may not be hard core tools, but they are not supposed to be! For intricate details this kit is perfect.

1.0 out of 5 stars p.o.s., October 15, 2011
This review is from: Pumpkin Masters Pumpkin Carving Kit with 12 Patterns & Tools
This kit is horrible. I buy one every year because they are cheap, and so this kit only had to last long enough to carve 2 medium sized pumpkins. By the time I cut the first eye on the first pumpkin, the pumpkin carving saw snapped off. Before that happened, it was bending like crazy, making it nearly impossible to use. So then I was down to one saw left, and it it was bending and warping badly, and snapped off the handle with only a little bit of mouth left to carve. I wasn't carving any complicated design either, just a simple pumpkin face. Now I'm wishing I had held on the kits I bought in prior years. I can't remember the blades on those older ones bending at all! Also worth mentioning... the pumpkin itself was pretty soft. I was able to easily finish the carving using a steak knife... in fact the steak knife worked way better. VERY DISAPPOINTED in this product.

My wife and her friend each bought one. They both broke. They sell for $4 in the supermarket or Target.

Horrible product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plastic and cheap, October 31, 2010
This review is from: Pumpkin Masters Pumpkin Carving Kit with 12 Patterns & Tools
The blades on the saws bent, the pin wheel was not strong enough to make noticeable holes, and there was no smaller tool to scrape the outside skin. I ended up using a bamboo skewer to make holes.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the price - perfect!, October 20, 2010

This review is from: Pumpkin Masters Pumpkin Carving Kit with 12 Patterns & Tools
I thought the tools provided were perfect for what I needed if used correctly. I believe I read a review about it breaking easily but I didn't have that problem. I did use a kitchen knife to make the initial cut of the pumpkin on top. But for the precise work I needed for the pattern i used, it worked perfectly. The tool used to trace the pattern was a bit hard to use around corners but I used the end of the drill bit for that. The patterns provided were also pretty good.
