super food, super cookbook,

This review is from: Pumpkin, a Super Food for All 12 Months of the Year (Paperback)
I have to start out by saying I LOVE pumkin, but have had a hard time finding recipes that extend far beyond your typical Thanksgiving pumpkin pie. Until I found this book, that is. As stated by another reviewer, the author gives great instructions on how to prepare pumpkin, which is great for people like me who have only cooked with the canned puree. Not to say that you have to have a pumpin patch to use this cookbook; on the contrary, the author offers a wide variety of recipes, utilizing both fresh and canned pumpkin. There is also a very handy list that organizes the recipes by the type of pumpkin used (canned, roasted, etc.) so you can easily find a way to use what you have on hand. Every recipe that I have tried to far has been great, epecially the Pumpkin Doughnut Muffins. *** I have to add to this and say that the pumpkin-molasses snaps alone make this book worth buying! My family polishes them off and then requests them again before the cookie sheets have cooled!

Ode to the Pumpkin,

Health and dietary experts continue to uncover new health benefits from eating pumpkin, but many find pumpkins difficult to cook with. Enter DeeDee Stovel's great cookbook to the rescue! First, many of us have a misconception that a cooking pumpkin is that large carving pumpkin known as a Jack-O-Lantern. Cooking pumpkins such as "Small Sugar" - the standard pie pumpkin, or "Rouge d'Etampes - the standard soup pumpkin, are considerably smaller than carving pumpkins. In addition, their eating quality is excellent whereas carving pumpkins have very little flavor or sweetness. These pumpkins are so delicious, you'll wonder why you've never eaten them before. And they are packed with nutrients including phytonutrients, which protects your skin from sun cancer.
In this book, DeeDee Stovel has developed many pumpkin recipes including soups such as Caribbean Black Bean. She shares how to roast or grill pumpkin, then add it to salads. Or you can make side dishes by mashing and mixing in herbs and other fruits. Recipes for pumpkin fruit smoothies and even a pumpkin drink are included. On the top of my list of her pumpkin dishes to try is Roasted Ginger pumpkin soup. This cookbook would be such a big help to young mothers who were never taught cookery and only know how to order a pizza. The recipes are not only simple to follow, suprisingly delicious, and appealing even to young children, but the dishes will save you loads of money in your monthly food bill while promoting your personal health.

I love pumpkin pie and make it every year. But when I saw this book I was intruiged. Can you really make a dish for every course with pumpkin? Surely not! Oh, but yes... you can. I am hooked.
I am a pumpkin-cooking fool now! So yummy, so good for you and it makes you smile. I've even been inspired to use pumpkin in some of my old favorite recipes. The fam loves it and my coworkers are begging me for the recipes. Well, they're getting copies of this book for christmas :)

I absolutely LOVE pumpkin, but I didn't know how to cook with fresh pumpkin. This book is excellent for not only providing instruction on how to cook fresh pumpkin but it also gives unique and wonderful recipes. There are some traditional recipes, such as a variety of pumpkin soups, however, there are others like risotto and pumpkin gratin. So if you love pumpkin and like to try new things... this is a wonderful book that is easy to use!

A really splendid package of menu's to suit all tastes and personalities. Our grandchildren refer to Pumpkin soups as Grandma's special soups and are always on the look out for variations, so this book has served as a wonderful insight to all the variations that are now possible.
The fact that this book also includes a miriad of other recipes, not normally found in the UK, has proved a treasure and it looks as if we shall continue to grow a regular crop of these wonderful vegetables for many years to come

Pumpkin a Super Food for All 12 Months of the Year,

This cook book is entirely about cooking pumpkins from vegetable side dishes to desserts. I am growing pumpkins this summer and hope to have enough to try a lot of the recipes. I particularly enjoyed an augratin pumpkin casserole with carmelized onions that I fixed as side dish for Thanksgiving last year. This cookbook will expand your awareness of what you can do with pumpkin and is a must have for any modern cook.

These are great recipes, and I am eager to get started on those that I have not already used. It's still a bit hot here in Texas, so I haven't done a lot of cooking yet, but the ones that I have tried so far are superb.
