Book Description

1997
This first novel by Dr. Breckenridge came about after a conversation with a friend, who said his wife was busy 8-10 hours a day in trying to grow a 1,000 lb. pumpkin in the hope of winning a $50,000 prize. The many trials and errors in it's pursuit seemed a great idea for a humorous book to Dr. Jack. The hero is a man who know EVERYTHING, or at least thinks he does. He leads his wife and neighbors into many laughable -but logical- situations in his search for the BIG pumpkin.

5.0 out of 5 stars PUMPKINS ARE ORANGE, June 5, 2009
This review is from: Pumpkins are orange (Mass Market Paperback)
If you want to laugh til tears are streaming down your cheeks and you have a hard time catching your breath -- this is THE book to read. The author has done a superb job of taking (what is assumed) his experiences in raising large pumpkins and made is absolutely hilarious. I can't imagine that he could have just 'thought this up' without having experienced a lot of it. I learned much valuable information about large pumpkin growing from reading such a funny book - so, educational and enjoyable!!

If you have gotten bitten by the bug, or know someone that has, this would make a *great* gift. It's a little more autobiographical to a first time small town grower than a lot will want to admit, but. Buy it for them AFTER they have gone through their first season! It made me smile and chuckle a few places (maybe with a bit of embarrassment) and was well worth the read! (yes, holiday gift, just make sure they don't have it already... heh)

If you have grown Atlantic Giants you can find yourself in this book, and if you haven't you may never want too. But Dr. Jack has this laughter thing down. I could not stop laughing out loud. This is a must read book because you will never forgive yourself for not reading it
