From School Library Journal
Grade 4-9-In the first part of this book, Terban helps set readers straight on apostrophes, commas, hyphens, parentheses, and many other punctuation marks, all alphabetically arranged. Within each section, rules are printed in blue type, followed by an explanation in black, and examples using both colors. The cartoon illustrations are also in blue. The second section explains bibliographies, direct quotes, play scripts, and sentences, and the kinds of punctuation marks they take. Children will find this book helpful as they try to craft writing assignments. The examples and the pictures help keep the tone light. Terban's Checking Your Grammar (Scholastic, 1994) includes a section on punctuation, but it is not as complete. Neither is the section in Dave Kemper's Writers Express (Great Source, 1995). Consider purchasing both a reference and circulating copy of Punctuation Power.
