Every time that I watched the new "Punisher" movie, I kept focusing on the film score more and more. The main theme would be stuck in my head for hours--even days! It was either on the seventh or eighth viewing of this movie over the course of one week that I decided that I had to get this fabulous score done by Carlo Siliotto, and am I ever glad that I did. "The Punisher: The Original Score" is a haunting and hypnotic score that is bound to stay in your head for days. Not only does it help you relive the movie, you actually feel it.
Carlo Siliotto masterfully captures the mood of "The Punisher," as it is dark, depressing, full of dread and the need for some kind of closure. You could sense all of this just by listening to the tracks even if you haven't seen the film. The heavy influences on this score tend to be that of film noir and the Spaghetti Western--blending the action with the mystery, the excitement with the mourning, and so on. There is a definite tone to this score that is always consistent and it never sounds boring or tiring. It ranges from very mellow and dramatic music to extreme tension. And it really does match the mood of the movie, which is always the main purpose and goal of a good score. The entire album is a great listen, but there are of course standout tracks. My personal favorites are "the punisher," "moving," "massacre," "god's gonna sit this one out," "entering the fort," "good memories can save your life," "a new family/joan's suffering," "the arrow," "the skull," "castle's loneliness" and "call me 'the punisher.'" Even though the whole album is great, those are the ones that really stick in my head and really help me relive the movie. As an added bonus, the score also includes two songs that were actually in the movie. Those would be "jealous one" (performed at Howard Saint's club) and the popular "la donna e' mabile," which is the song that you hear when Frank is fighting "The Russian." Another neat bonus is that the CD booklet includes information about the movie, the background of "Frank Castle," and an open letter to the director by Carlo Siliotto. It really is an interesting story how they met (for a more in depth story, make sure you watch the making-of featurette on the DVD). The original score from "The Punisher" composed by Carlo Siliotto is a masterpiece, in my opinion. It really brings life to the movie itself, and it makes for one enjoyable album to listen to. Even though this will mostly only appeal to those who have seen the movie, it can be enjoyed by those who haven't seen the movie as well, if they're fans of a good movie score. A superb job on all fronts. I couldn't be happier with the final product. -Michael Crane

The Punisher score was superb. The creepiness, tenderness, and/or grim resolution of the songs (depending on the song) perfectly illustrates the moods portrayed in the movie. I could almost re-imagine the scene that a particular song played in when I heard that song. Personal favorites include track numbers 13, 19, 23, and 28. I have heard a few people complain about some of the songs being repetitive...but it's a movie score. And the main theme of the movie (track 1) is developed as need be throughout the movie in addition to many other well placed, and unique, tracks. Too bad Carlo Siliotto's only big movie score has been this one; he really should have the right to make more.
What I'm trying to say is: get this movie's score now. And the DVD, when it comes out in September.

One of those rare exceptions...,

...where the quality of the soundtrack succeeds that of the movie itself.
Carlo Siliotto's score manages to capture both Frank Castle and the Punisher while keeping the atmosphere of the comic books. At times frightening and speedy, at other times melodramatically slow, almost kitschy. Almost. Unlike the movie, the soundtrack works.

Not to mention that I am a hardcore Punisher fan. This score rocks, it dilivers hard military styled beats everytime you see Frank, just watch the film. Also this score is a real treat it features the alternate ending song to the movie. So if you loved the movie, and love italian composed music buy this today!

Wow! I recall thinking the music was pretty cool in the movie, but hearing Carlo Siliotto's score by itself is a revelation! A welcome return to good 'ol fashioned orchestral film music -- classic, melodramtic themes laced with darkness, sadness and heart. Very Morricone in parts, very noirish, but very much its own voice... finally, a current comic book movie film score not afraid to have infecutous themes! I had forgotten that Siliotto had scored "Fluke" - love that score too. Let's get this guy scoring more Hollywood movies pronto! CD Booklet kicks butt too, lots of notes and cool art. Sweet CD!

The very first thing I noticed when seeing Jonathan Hensleigh's Punisher film was the moody and haunting opening score as the opening title credits dripped onto the screen. Having been unfamiliar with composer Carlo Siliotto (honestly, I had never even heard of him) I was intrigued and very impressed based on the opening theme alone. Thankfully though, the rest of the Punisher score is nearly just as good, as Siliotto makes himself known as a superb composer to American movie-goers. Tracks "The Massacre", "God's Gonna Sit This One Out", "The Torture", "The Arrow", "The Skull", and "Call Me the Punisher" are all fantasticly moody and chilling, and startlingly poignant as well; which is a welcome surprise for a comic book movie score. Siliotto even manages to capture the feel of the character through his music more so than Hensleigh did with the film, though that might not seem like such a surprise to some viewers of the film. All in all, the Punisher score is one of the best film scores to come out in quite some time, and Siliotto's main theme is worth the price of admission alone.

Punisher soundtrack,
This review is from: The Punisher (Audio CD)
This has all the background music from The Punisher movie. It also includes La Donna e Mobile, the song from the fight with The Russian, and Jealous One, which is sung in one of the scenes at the club. It notably features the opening theme from the credits. The only thing I didn't like is that "In Time" by Mark Collie (Harry Heck in the movie) is not on there. The music is very good, and you don't have to remember which scene in the movie it's from to appreciate it.

Carlo Siliotto's score for the Punisher is outstanding. If you are a fan of the movie, you will love this soundtrack. Even if you are not a fan of the movie give the soundtrack a chance, you will probably still enjoy it.

Great Movie + Great Score,

This is one of my favorite movies and one of the best scores I have ever heard. Like stated before, this score really captures the mood of The Punisher as stated by the composer himself, Carlo Siliotto.
"While I was writing this music, it was exciting for me to mix such diverse elements as sadness and hope, along with love and darkness, with jealousy and friendship, all combined with bad memories and good memories which, 'Can save your live.' And this quote from the movie has been the key to helping me to create the soundtrack. I hope my music is something The Punisher would appreciate and feel like its part of his own character." - Carlo Siliotto - To: Director, Jonathan Hensleigh The above section is from a letter written by Carlo Siliotto to the Director, Jonathan Hensleigh. The letter in it's entirety is included in the Score Booklet. Again, great score and great movie. A can't miss for any Punisher fan!

Whether you liked the Punisher movie or not, there is much to be said for Carlo Siliotto's score. The main theme is very good and grabs the listener right away. Some of the other incidental music tends to get lost but overall the music is fine. My one complaint is the amount of tracks. Rather than weave together any constancy the break up of this cd into so many tracks makes many of the tracks 1-2 minutes long. Which is ok, but sometimes just when you really start to get into the music it ends and that can be kind of irritating. Overall however, this is a good score, one that fits perfectly with the movie and outshines it a bit.
