4.0 out of 5 stars Good battles with some undercurrents of political and military satire, March 14, 2011
This review is from: Punisher: Kingdom Gone (Marvel Graphic Novels) (Paperback)
The Punisher is a lone man fighting with a vengeance against crime and corruption. He was known as Frank Castle before his family was shot down when caught in the midst of a gun battle between rival gangs of criminals. As a vigilante, the law has as much interest in stopping his actions as the criminals do; yet the Punisher is clever and resourceful at evading the legal authorities and overcoming the bodyguards of his targets.
In this case, the Punisher is after an accomplished swindler, drug runner and killer named Greaves. When Greaves just manages to escape from the Punisher in the city, he goes to a small island nation in the Caribbean called Puerto Salvaje. The country is a democracy when he arrives but the first thing that Greaves does when he gets there is buy the bank so that he can take over the country. He also takes over a palatial estate, hires a small army of mercenary guards and kidnaps one of the local beauties
When the U. S. government learns that the runway of the airport has been extended, they send in the marines under the pretext that there has been a communist takeover. This does not deter the Punisher; it only makes his task more difficult. The battles are harsh, brutal and short but eventually the Punisher prevails and exacts his revenge on the arrogant Greaves.
The Punisher and all characters like him appeal to our emotional need to exact revenge for wrongs. As banks and financial institutions fail and screw their customers, it is a natural desire to want to hang the rascals high. Fortunately, there is the artificial world of comics like the Punisher that allow us to act on that desire with a harmless fantasy. This story has great action and at the end conforms to the old comics code requirement that "crime must not pay." Of course the path to that point is very graphic.

This review is from: Punisher: Kingdom Gone (Marvel Graphic Novels) (Paperback)
I enjoyed the punisher book "Kingdome Gone" It was about the punisher going to a tropical paradise on the trail of drug kingpin Hamilton "Bo" Greaves. The punisher is smart and tough but so is drug kingpin greaves who puts his tough black henchman against the punisher in a great great fight. the drug kingpin Greaves manages to elude the punisher for awhile and even get off the tropical island but their is a HUGE surprise awaiting for him at the very end!....which I LOVED !!! I thought the punisher book was good. I like the weapons the punisher uses in this book it's pretty cool, plus I also like the drawings. the artist draws the punisher like a crazy man killing beast, which I love. all in all an enjoyable read, punisher fans should like this book. I recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Hero in an Average Comic Book, November 29, 2001
This review is from: Punisher: Kingdom Gone (Marvel Graphic Novels) (Paperback)
This grahic novel by Chuck Dixon, Jorge Zaffino and John Wellington is average at best. The story, initially promising falls short and at times is quite boring. The illustrations resembles some of Klaus Janson work -like in "Batman:Gothic."

Set in a third world island, the Punisher is out to stop a drug kingpin. The comic is fairly slow, but one part involving a fight between the Punisher and a black hinchman is great. It is more realistic than most as it portrays a serious street fight. That four pages alone makes this book worthwhiole, otherwise, it would be better off on the shelf.
