Punisher VS Jigsaw,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Punisher War Journal - Volume 4: Jigsaw (Punisher (Marvel Hardcover)) (v. 4) (Hardcover)
Matt Fraction's run on Punisher War Journal started off horribly to say it lightly, but it slowly and surely got better with each passing issue, combining elements of dark humor and current Marvel continuity to make for a worthwhile trip (though still even nowhere as good a combo as what Garth Ennis did on his pre-MAX Marvel Knights run). The fourth collected volume, Jigsaw!, is pretty self-explanatory, as Frank takes on his most popular and deadly foe. Fraction's story drags on in the beginning, but there is a decent enough payoff as the book reaches its conclusion to make it worth checking out. Howard Chaykin's artwork is something you'll either take or leave, but his renderings work much better than anything from Ariel Olivetti ever did. All in all, Matt Fraction's Punisher War Journal run doesn't reach what Ennis achieved during his Marvel Knights run (and certainly not his MAX run), but for what it's worth, his later issues of the series are still worthy of checking out regardless.
