5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is soo awesome
I loved this CD! I'm a huge and pretty critical fan of acoustic and this CD didn't dissapoint me. TSL is my fave. band so I thought Playing Favorites sounded awesome. I really liked TBS Cute Without the E, it was a really interesting take on acoustic and it was an awesome spin on a song I love, but was getting tired of. 3.0 out of 5 stars Merely Okay
I fear that this album simply reveals that some bands are just not good stripped from the magic of the studio. More so, that many singers are simply not cut out to actually be vocalists. True, the album does have a certain amount of talented musicians and they do have good acoustic tracks, but others...well, you get the point. Purchase the album mainly for the fact that...

True, the album does have a certain amount of talented musicians and they do have good acoustic tracks, but others...well, you get the point. Purchase the album mainly for the fact that you can see what bands are actually gifted in the realm of music, and which are suited only for studio production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't only judge on signing performance... Listen to the lyrics!, March 23, 2006
By
This review is from: Punk Goes Acoustic (Audio CD)
True, some artists give a very weak performance on this album if you only look at the signing talent. BUT, on most of the songs the lyrics are far better than anything else written in my opinion. I like the original verison of most of the songs and I'm really glad there is now an acoustic version that makes it more like a ballad. If you take time to listen to the lyrics, you'll def. like the song better than for the signing performance along (take Taking Back Sunday as an example). I must have listened to this cd about 1000 times and I still listen to it regularly.

4.0 out of 5 stars A few Acoustic let-downs, but some good stuff in all, July 26, 2004
This review is from: Punk Goes Acoustic (Audio CD)
So, it's not really the compiler's fault that some of the acoustic versions of much-loved songs are kind of lame. It's mostly the artists' fault for their interpretations. Yet still, with these acoustic let-downs, Punk Goes Acoustic only earns four stars. This is for fans of acoustic music; I wouldn't recommend it if you just want to hear the acoustic versions but prefer electric, because, well, this even disappointed ME and I'm a huge fan of acoustic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Way better than Punk goes Pop, June 10, 2004
This review is from: Punk Goes Acoustic (Audio CD)
After I heard punk goes pop I didn't think this compilation had a chance, but it's actually not half-bad. My favorite track would have to be Thursday's compilation, but that's just cause I am a big Thursday fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best song in "Punk Goes Acoustic", August 31, 2004
This review is from: Punk Goes Acoustic (Audio CD)
I don't understand what the big hype is about "Firewater". Provided the fact that "Punk Goes Acoustic" was the first album to feature this song, I still think, although the song is one of a kind, Yellowcard isn't exactly the best when it comes to performing acoustic sets. I believe an acoustic set is entirely about acoustic guitars; drums are acceptable under certain circumstances, but couldn't Sean Mackin put his violin back in its little case and sit out for this one song. Ok, now that I have managed to turn all of you hardcore Yellowcard fans against me, let me tell you why Thursday's acoustic version of "Hole in the World" is clearly the most valuable contribution to this album. "Hole in the World" was the kind of song I expected when I went to FYE and purchased this CD. Its deep rhetorical lyrics, perfectly synchronized guitars and vocals, and dynamic transitions puts Thursday above the rest of the bands featured in the album. They are past ordinary, setting new standards for the music world. Everyone of their songs are filled pact with meaning, through metaphors and imagery, which are then refined by the music of the lyrics themselves. Topping it all off with heartfelt guitar riffs played at the perfect octaves , which brings all of the components together and creates music. "Hole in the World" was a great song in its original form, but after I heard it remastered on acoustic guitars I gained a whole new respect for the band. And as a note for anyone who enjoyed this song as much as I did, Thursday's acoustic version of "Division Street" from their album "War all of the Time" is just as good, if not better , so you might want to look into that (I'm not too sure what CD it is on, or if it is even on a CD. I just downloaded the song .)

3.0 out of 5 stars Unplug Those Amps, April 9, 2011
This review is from: Punk Goes Acoustic (Audio CD)
Well, the title says it all. Twenty punk-rock outfits strip down their hard-edged sound and go acoustic. For the most part, the bulk of ampless tracks on Punk Goes Acoustic are mediocre at best, but there are a few standout songs that exceed beyond that mundane wall of simple acoustic strums and plucks.

The one track that's the definite standout on Punk Goes Acoustic is Coalesce's "Blue Collar Lullaby." Yeah, you read right. One of the most abrasive hard hitters goes soft and does it remarkably well. It's a moody acoustic piece that will make any long time Coalesce fan wonder "why didn't these guys go unplugged sooner?" Other standout tunes are Grade's "Gathering Darkness" and Noise Ratchet's "Away to the Heart."

The rest: Open Hand, Thrice, Yellowcard, Sugarcult, Finch, Thursday, The Starting Line, Strung Out, The Ataris, Taking Back Sunday, From Autumn To Ashes, Rise Against, Piebald, Rufio, Strike Anywhere, Glasseater, and Midtown. So if you are a fan of at least a handful of these bands then this compilation is worth a listen. Just don't expect the high energized delivery you've become accustomed to from your favorite punk-rock team, but the change of pace is a nice departure and the concept helps separate Punk Goes Acoustic from the plethora of compilations saturating the various artists section at your local record shop. Other interesting concept compilation releases from Fearless include Punk Goes Metal and Punk Goes Pop.

Punk Goes Acoustic also comes with a bonus sampler disc containing one song each by Anatomy of a Ghost, Rock Kills Kid, Kinison, Plain White T's, Count the Stars, Between the Buried and Me, Spitalfield, and Silverstein. Enticing, isn't it?

4.0 out of 5 stars As An Acoustic Player, It Is Awsome, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Punk Goes Acoustic (Audio CD)
This album is pretty amazing, I have always been a fan of acoustic songs played by bands. I think it is awsome that they put all the good bands onto one album, none of the songs on here

are bad or boring. The best songs are Cute Without the E, Over it, Letters to You, and the Thrice one. If you'r in the mood for some quiet punk rock, you cant go wrong with this one.
